Hi Lady Lowena, I just happened to be lurking around Jim's page and thought I might be able to help... (After all, I suspect Jim's a little rushed off his feet at the moment)
You've actually asked two different questions there...
If you want to put smileys into your postings in conversations you just type the name of the smiley between < and > ...
so < biggrin > without the spaces gives
and < smiley > without the spaces gives
while < monster > without the spaces gives
For the full list of smileys available just click here <./>Smileys</.>
As to pictures, you can't actually post them into conversations, however, if you want to use them in entries or on your personnal space, just click here => C809 and you'll find a list of headings, look around them until you find the picture you want to use then just copy the code from the right hand side of your page onto your entry...
However, I noticed that your personal space is in plain text... before inserting pictures you've just got to change to GML.... which isn't as frightening as it seems...
Firstly, on your personnal space you should see a grey bar across the page with "about me" written on the right hand side...
click on it and it'll take you down towards the bottom of your page and the section headed "The so-called dark ages"...
To the right of this section you'll see some text: "Edit Page", press there, then you'll see a box appear that'll look much like the boxes you type into when your involved in conversations....
At the bottom of this box is a button with a choice of "Plain Text" or "Guide ML" and a "Change Style" button...
Then, to format your text, just put at the beginning of every paragraph and at the end of every paragraph and copy the code of the picture you want to insert into your text wherever you'd like it...
Finally press "update entry" to finish off.
After that, you've started on the way to being a professional website designer
If you need any more help just click on my name at the top of this posting and itll take you to my page and you can scream for help there

Play cheddar gorge at what? I live pretty near to Cheddar Gorge but it doesn't seem to do anything much except stand around and be made out of limestone. thanx for your tech help. How come I only get smileys in brunel and not clasgoo?

You only get smileys in Brunel and not in Goo
*thinks*
I'm guessing you use a set-top box and access the web via your cable TV hookup, if that is the case it could just be that Goo uses a lot more memory than Brunel and that your box just isn't powerful enough to show both goo and smileys....
If,on the other hand, you're using a PC... the answer is that I haven't the foggiest!
