dissertation

hello everyone. at the moment i am currently writing a film studies dissertation, dealing with sf dystopias. the chapter i am currently writing is about the ineveitable degenerative consequences of depriving society of its literature, based on the FILMS nineteen eighty-four and fahrenheit 451 - yes, i am fully aware that both of these films are adapted from highly reputable books, however i am a film, not english student, and so must focus on this medium. any random thoughts would be appreciated, as my dear boyfriend, often my advisor on many things academic, has no interest at all in sf, and insists on drinking cider and watching eastenders when ever i bring the subject up.

future homes and immortality- where are we goin man?

just a reminder to me saw a thing on the telly last night about how to terraform mars - warm up the planet by seeding the atmosphere with green house gasses from our own planet. do this by planting self sufficient gas replicating machines on the surface. (technicaly this is polluting mars' atmosphere, but oh well)the increased heat would enable algae to grow, eventualy creating an atmosphere humans couls survive in. wonder how long this process would take?
actualy also saw this thing on richard and judy about this scientist lady who has created a method that may theoreticaly able human kind to prevent death by biological means. the process was some thing along the lines of replicating the patients stem cells from their own blood, which would in turn cure the disease that was killing them.
is this a good thing or not? would be cool to still be alive to be able to have flying cars etc. back to the future stylie but is it the destiny of the human race to be one of old age and impotence? will biological immortality mean eternal youth and fertility? and how gutted would u be if u died the day before they invented the cure for death its self? hmm.
