Hello right back at you. smiley - smiley Another ACE I can pester with my soon to be unending stream of questions. Being new is always hard, but I think that being someone who can answer questions must be infinitely more trying.

Since I joined I have been trying to come up with ideas for my first guide entry and I am beginning to think that I joined a few years too late. Everything that I think of seems to be already out there. Is there any rules against similar guide entries that focus on different points??

thanks!

I don't find it's a pain to answer questions; I'm happy to help those that I can. Rather an unending barrage of questions than radio silence, as it were.

We tend to split into two camps on hootoo: the ones that view the community as the main thing, and the guide entries as a useful offshoot. Or those that are really set on the business of creating guide entries and creating them fast smiley - run.

Myself, I've been here for about two or three years and I've written so far one guide entry per year. So if you don't know what to write about straight away, that's ok smiley - ok.

But subjects you're interested in or know a lot about. My first entry, on LSD (A750115) was a biology homework. My second, on Classical Theism (A1113445) counted as philosophy revision. My third on Ecstasy is going through the editing process now.

You have background in physics? Why not do a little search and then write about.... I don't know, radiation? For the educated layman?

Only a suggestion, really, half the point of Guide Entries is to have a blast writing them too.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm not sure if physics is necessarely the route I want to follow for my very first entry. I think that it may be too closely related to work for me to really put my heart into it. After all work and hobbies seem to be alot like the separation of church and state. At least if you are not lucky enough to create fiduciary success from your hobbies!

Boy that would be a wonderful world. If only I could determine a way to make money drinking, eating, and conversing with everyone in sight. Without becoming a politician that is. smiley - winkeye

It's up to you. Looking up info on drugs wasn't really my hobby, it just seemed like a good place to start. If I were to write about my hobbies... well I suppose to some extent I do, writing Pratchett reviews. Anyway, if I were to write about my hobbies it would be a lot of writing about music, which a lot of has been done already.

I have had two inspirations!

1) Write about a local band, blues jams or something like that. Maybe a song that you particularly like that has a long history.
2) Flick through mens' magazine. Look at the trivia pages in satirical magazines. Look in Schott's Miscellany. Something curious, but in some way that you feel better for knowing, let it jump out at you. Look up everything you can about it. Write about it.

The second one is better. I suppose my Entries are from, or related to that.
