Just been listening to M&L while I sat outside eating my lunch. Good stuff
Got me thinking (as they mentioned it) have you read Showbusiness - The diary of a rock and roll nobody by Mr Radcliffe? It's very funny, written like you would expect him to I thought.
I remember listening to Out on Blue Six, years ago when he was first broadcasting on R1, then the nighttime, then breakfast and now I grab the odd snippet of the afternoon show when I can.

Okay ... everybody's going to have to stop this! the girls in the other office are listening to them and i can't even load realplayer on to this bloody computer and i keep forgetting my wee radio ! (i've written on my hand to remind me for 2morrow) the whole office has become M 'n' L obessed (that's my fault, that is)
again, i'm a relatively new convert, obviously the wilderness years applies to everything that happened between 1991 and 1999 i missed everything - madchester, radiohead, loadsa stuff that i know i don't know about so i don't know about them :-0
its raining up here - lashing it down all morning but very humid, so no sitting outside for us. i was the only one going out so i had to buy 4 lbs of garden peas from M & S for everyone.

It was only a quick snippet.
I seemed to get the bit between showers when I was outside so I didn't get wet. When I got back to my desk and looked out, it was raining quite hard.
If you don't know about it, then you're not really missing it

stop raining now, its just really balmy
ah but i do miss it, when i can't join in the conversations with my peers (ach, i'll never know the joy of conversations about the inspiral carpets and john squires!)
Hot Shots II
Solsbury Posted Aug 2, 2001
We've got the rain here now
Inspiral carpets - top band, from Oldham, Noel Gallagher as their rodie. Clint plays Fairfisa, not a hammond. I've met at least three out of the five (Tom and Clint who are still making music and I can't remember the name of the geezer but he runs a record shop now).
John Squire - Stone Roses a band who have only just been beaten in the time taken between the first two albums (they took 5 years, Stereo MCs too 8 or 9). I wasn't really into the stone roses at the time but a load of my mates were.
The heady days of the early 90's where indie, dance and rock met and came out all baggy and a little bit psychadelic.
Hot Shots II
weegie Posted Aug 2, 2001
how do you remember all this stuff!
funny - i missed an entire decade of music during that time i was neither baggy nor psychedelic (making up for it now)
John Squires - lead sex symbol of the seahorses - got friends who were obessive about him [including the john squires altar on her fridge]
>> Clint plays Fairfisa, not a hammond
eh are you talking about organs?
Hot Shots II
Solsbury Posted Aug 2, 2001
How do I remember it, probably by being too straight and not really doing anything that might make me forget!
Tis the same fellow, Stone Roses and Seahorses.
I have got a 12" of Ian Brown doing Billy Jean and Thriller!
Organs yes
(ooh eer, it's a big one that Clint has got! )

no fun! struggling with drug induced short term memory loss is ALWAYS a challange!
Well another day.... another £2.50 maybe talk to you tomorrow?
Hot Shots II
Solsbury Posted Aug 2, 2001
I try and make sure the only memory loss comes from far too much alcohol rather than anything else.
I'll be here tomorrow if you are.

weegie Posted Aug 3, 2001
ah alcohol, not my chemical of choice... bit more of a smoker, although i can partake of the demon drink when the necessity and society dictates.
heard a fantastic hip hop band last night on t'radio, you should look out for them - ugly duckling. i'm not the biggest hip hop fan, but enjoyed them.
Hot Shots II
Solsbury Posted Aug 3, 2001
Never heard of them!
I've seen some good, some interesting and some downright bad hip hop acts doing support for various people.
I can't say I'm the worlds biggest fan but if it's done well with an interesting slant then it's ok.

this is friday right? last day of the working week; its dress down friday here (not that the art school are particuarly tough about that sort of thing .... some of the stuff people wear ) i'm looking resplendant in my slacks and black lounge shirt and they're making me work!!!! what the hell is that all about?
hope you're having a lazier friday? is this the end of your first week? or have you been there a wee while?

Solsbury Posted Aug 3, 2001
End of the 2nd week. At least the dress code here is casual anyway I probably wouldn't have taken the job had I to wear a suit all day!
Tomorrow I'll be getting a train up to Manchester to go to the Spring Onion meet. Should be a good laugh.
Any plans for the weekend?
Hot Shots II
weegie Posted Aug 3, 2001
the spring onion meet? eh?
artists dress as strangely as some of the stuff they call art, there's at least one pink fluffy lady here! not strict, but i still like to be semi-professional looking. in sayign that i'd make a versace outfit look crumpled, i just don't think i'm suited for clothes if you know what i mean (definately look better in clothes than out of them)
got no plans for the weekend - free spirit (or is that W***E no-mates?) see where the wind takes me (probably sitting in watching casualty)

The Spirng Onion, a meet up in Manchester on saturday at the Trafford Centre. Shopping, drinking and bowling.
I try and make sure I look smart but will only wear suits when the occasion demands it (job interviews, hatch, match and dispatch events). I think a lot of how clothes look is down to the fitting and sometimes off the peg fits othertimes it's a real nightmare - especially if you decide you like something. One of my biggest problems is getting shoes. Being just outside the standard size range is really really annoying!
Some of the best weekends can be had just doing nothing.

weegie Posted Aug 3, 2001
oh you know what they say about big feet .... big shoes
i'm smart ... but extremely casual, bit like yourself, i think if i turned up in suit, i'd get slagged merciously.
This spring onion thing is this a regular meet, for regular people? - friends of yours and stuff? sounds like fun, shopping (a definate thumbs up) drinking (if i have to ) bowling .... never done it, but is suspect i'd be crap at it - i've got no hand-eye coordination - none, i'm also the clumsiest person in the earth (tm) i'd be liable to kill someone, or myself.
i'lll not be hanging around waiting for my friends to call (although its a possibility) i'm doing some voluntary work with oxfam on saturday and then the pub with them!
Hot Shots II
Solsbury Posted Aug 3, 2001
They're not that big, honest. My feet are only a foot long.
If I turned up in a suit (just like at the last place I worked) they'd want to know where I was going for an interview
It will be regular people, well as regular as you get on this site. I have met a couple of the others going there before but most will be new people and faces.
Oxfam are good, they sell some of my favourite chocolate

oh its a site thing ... have fun. madchester bit far away from london village?
oh don't put yourself down, i had this image of you with your big feet!
i don't work in the shop, i phone people to ask if they want to put envelopes through their neighbours doors.
Hot Shots II
Solsbury Posted Aug 3, 2001
It is a fair distance to go yes, but I like Manchester. I have to it's where I was brought up I just ended up in London village for work. I certainly didn't plan on coming here at all.
My feet are a little on the large size, but not that much - only a size 13, most places stock to size 12 which is why it's annoying. Perhaps I should do what a lot of people suggest and chop my toes off! If I did that I'd end up with less to balance on after a heavy night on the town
All good stuff volunteering, it's more than I do.
Hot Shots II
weegie Posted Aug 3, 2001
that's not what you're meant to say, you were supposed to say yes, i have big feet - big all over (nudge, nudge, wink, wink say no more)
