vectusian

My name is vectusian I was born in Cowes in 1934.
and lived there all my child hood going to school at
Cowes Secondary Modern school which opened it's doors for the first time in 1947 I represented my school at athletic and also the Isle of Wight in the Hampshire
athletic champion. I didn't do any good thou. As a boy until my voice broke I sang in St Mary's church choir.
My early life was spent in the second world war. I served an apprentiship and went to sea as an engineer
seeing alot of the world in the 6 years I was employed
there. In that time met a very charming young New Zealand
girl from Wellington who came all the way to England
so we could get married. which we did on December19th
1960. We lived in Weybridge Surrey for a short time,
but when our 1st daughter was born we found that we could not get a flat to live in. So with the help our my
late Mother-in-Law our fares by sea was arranged and we sail on the R.M.S.Ruahine arriving in Wellington in April
1962. From there we had another 3 children. To-day we live in a little place called Kerepehi near to two of
daughters and grand children. My interest in h2g2 stems from the fact that there are very interesting things
on the Isle of Wight and also I hope I can find someone who can supply me with the songs of the Wight. So that I can learn and sing them. Also I would like to meet anyone
who can speak our Isle of Wight dialect so also I can help to keep it alive, instead of speaking with a plum in one's mouth or that that how I see it when speaking Queen's english. I think this enough about me for now.
regards vectusian.smiley - cheers

Hi vectusian.

If you want to introduce yourself properly, you should write something like this in your personal space. You can do that by using the edit page button on the right hand side of it. The discuss this entry bit is really for other researchers to leave messages for you smiley - ok

My dad's family were from Portsmouth, but I haven't been to the IOW since I was too small to remember anything about it.

Hi vectusian here, I am replying to my own notes of where I came from.
I have since been lucky to find the words of the "songs of the soil"
but as yet no music, so if anyone out there does know of the music please contact me Yours Vectusian.
