I'm tempted to switch to plain if it isn't there.
It's just that I'm not particularly fond of plain.

I've started reading it, Gnomon. Thanks for that. I now know why you have the 'signout' link on your PS. I have always wondered about that.

Well, I'm on the old browser in the tea-room, which uses Windows ME Network, with Internet Explorer 5 - it just cannot deal with the button - it's gone into dreadful text and symbols...
Great!

It's not in Goo at all if you use the frames version, Shanky.
The grey was better. This bar appears on just abouts every page on the BBC site, so it ought to be quiet and unobtrusive. That blue button is awful.

But strangely enough, it does exist in both framed and unframed Alabaster.

Is it a permanent fixture then?
I only asked if you can see it because,.... It kept disappearing!
It is a pretty blue button and should lead somewhere special.. can I press it yet?

I fail to see the point of it when they've left the BBC site search box and a link to BBC Homepage on the same line (in Brunel skin that is). Wouldn't the 'Explore the BBC' button be better off on the main BBC homepage?

I like the new BBC header, but yes, the colour does clash with Alabaster, particularly the cycling fish banner.

A brief visit, to suggest that if one wants to explore the BBC, there are better ways to do it than using a blue button.
Use a blue car.
A Peel P50 to be precise, as seen on Top Gear. For those who didn't see it, it's here:

Finding the mysterious blue button, navigating more or less at whim from the science and nature hyperlink, I found my way to the link below. Looks like the entry way into an underground cavern system.

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Wish you were here: Imaging Mars
Next I hit the TV hyperlink....

The little blue button is a useful shortcut.
My local cable provider, TV Guide Network (Georgia, USA), doesn't carry any of the channels listed under TV except "Animal Planet", though I do get some of the BBC programs on Sci Fi channel and GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting). At home, I get BBCA on SelectTV.
Next I was looking at the Government listings. I expect that by the end of this century, with the digital revolution, we'll be able to navigate into everything in World Government from just one channel, from the UN General Assembly to the national governments, provincial and state governments, down to New England town meetings and African village council meetings.

Indeed it was! One of my favourite childhood memories, my dad reading that to me. A different world appeared at the top of the tree each chapter, you could only explore them for a certain time... I think that joke was lost at the time in this thread... where were you when I needed you.
You remember Saucepan Man?
What about Moon Face? Silky? Mr Whatzhisname? And (ducks out of the way) Dame Washalot?
Somehow that sounds like a role-call in Yikes...
