Touting for business...

Post 81

Do many people read smiley - thepost at all? I'm subscribed to the alert thread but rarely read it: it's generally stories, poetry and personal recollections, none of which I read.

(No offence to the poets in this thread, I just don't do poetry!)

I'm one of (and this is pure speculation) many who love smiley - thepost's existence but don't read it.

It's very difficult to tell how many people read smiley - thepost because hardly anybody ever comments. My column seems to have a couple of readers, when I wrote Northern Bank instead of Northern Rock I got a comment pointing the mistake out to me. I'm sure if it hadn't been for that, no comment would have been left.
And my column doesn't fit any of the categories you mentioned, Roymondo.
There's a sports column, btw, and I've really tried to get psycorp back to writing his inquisitor column. There's a new column about life on the channel island Jersey, which I can really recommend.

OK,ok, I'll stop now.

I think the Post has a very good mix of columns and columnists. Poetry and Fiction are obviously a big part of it, but the Regulars and Features have material that is relevant to most people; the Regulars are very diverse in their coverage. For example, there's a regular wildlife column, a sports columnist, a travelogue and Random Ramblings with Bel keeping her finger on the pulse. Recently, Leo and Felonious Monk have contributed fantastic Features with very different slants; see them at A26666850 and A26089743.

If there's a type of article you'd rather read, Roymondo, why not suggest it and we can either scour h2g2 for a columnist, or write it yourself? smiley - smiley

Bob, you could always set a fortnightly puzzle for us, whether that be a crossword, quiz or whatever you like. We're always open to new ideas and suggestions smiley - smiley

There isn't a regular article I'd like to read: I come to h2g2 for the interaction and to write the occasional entry. I have little interest in somebody's holiday, poetry, stories etc as a feature in smiley - thepost, but I love the elements of all these things that we display while in conversation.

Who knows, maybe one day you'll write something for smiley - thepost, never say never. smiley - winkeye

I did, a year or so back, about WOMAD, but didn't finish the second part as to have done so would have involved admitting to illegal activity.

I tried writing the second part many times but it was rubbish without the honesty.

Well, there are other things you could write about, the Glasto festival comes to mind. I'm sure you'll find something if you want to. smiley - smiley

I'd rather make my friends laugh in threads or my journal, or write a proper entry.

I'd love to contribute more to smiley - thepost but it seems a tad hypocritical to write for something that I don't read.

I think that smiley - thepost should report on what's happening on h2g2 rather than being an irrelevant sideshow.

But if you don't read it, how do you know that it doesn't do exactly that? smiley - tongueout

And admittedly, I don't feel that I have to read every article, but I appreciate that I have the choice. smiley - smiley

'But if you don't read it, how do you know that it doesn't do exactly that?'

I look at the front page and see little of interest.

Few of us are genuinely interested in each others' lives or opinions (The Forum attests to that) apart from those of our real friends (of which you are one of mine B'Elanna).

I know there is well written, funny stuff in there, but if I'm on h2g2 I ain't going to be reading smiley - thepost, I'm going to be interacting with the best people on the internet.

I don't want you to feel as if you had defend yourself for not reading smiley - thepost. smiley - smooch
I choose what I want to read, I hardly ever read anything in the Underguide, although I know there are some veritable gems to be found.

Any part of the site you don't use could be construed as an 'irrelevant sideshow' if you want to be rude about it, Roymondo. I find that quite offensive; if you were to see half the work that goes into it, perhaps you might learn a little tact. No-one's making you read the Post, but don't pontificate about it from a position of ignorance.

'Few of us are genuinely interested in each others' lives or opinions'. Then please remove me from your friends list, and I shall do the same. Although I respect your honesty, I have no interest in reading your journals if you have no desire to read mine.

What makes you think I have no desire to read your journal entries? I rarely chip in, but you are involved in fields that I have no knowledge of, so I have little to contribute.

I'll remove you from my friends list if you like, but it will hurt me to do so.

Oh please, don't let friends fall out over smiley - thepostsmiley - grovel
Roymondo said that he prefers the interaction to reading the Post, and journals are a great part of and initiative for interaction.
Let's not start now to excuse for journals we don't post to, ok?
