Yes we have only one time zone. There was a smart ass comment I read somewhere that India should have multiple time zones if our claim to the Permanent seat in the UN Security Council is to be taken seriously!
And we do not have this daylight saving business. No need to save - we wait for the blessed orb to go down I am unable to trace the link to the site that I saw this morning about the regions that use daylight saving, the regions that no longer use it ( India falls in this category ) and regions that never used it.
Looks like it was Benjamin Franklin who first mooted the idea of daylight saving time.

British summer is rubbish, at the moment, it would be nice to have a bit more daylight/sunshine to save. I agree : one time!

British Summer Time was stopped sometime in the late '60's - early '70's and caused a major hike in child cycling fatalities in the winter, particularly in Scotland where the sun sets an hour earlier than in the south.
For this reason '*v*r-r**dy' bought out a special light to replace dynamos to provide safety, and children were given special reflectors to wear on their arms...
It is easy to overlook it's importance south of the border but, maybe with the gradual devolution of GB then there will be Scottish Summer Time while England has a universal constant time setting...
Somehow I don't think so as most of Europe has a time change for the reasons!
It depends on where you live, I guess, as to how it affects you.
I certainly wouldn't like to live in the Orkneys with GMT throiughout winter with night hitting at 15:00 and morning arriving at 11:00. Or equivalent!!!
