We don't have any decent sales anymore.

I used to enjoy them, then one time I was watching the price on a lovely dress. It was coming down gradually, then the sales began and they put the price back up higher than when I first spotted the dress!! smiley - yikes

I've never believed in sales since then.. smiley - erm

over here we had 2 sale times: january and june. but they stopped that for commercial reason. now you can have sale whole year. funny thing is that people believe sale signs.

in need some food...back later!

Regarding sales:

I used to work at a large electrical retailer, who's cosmic name shall go unmentioned...
One of my jobs was updating the price labels on the shelves every Tuesday. Every week or two I'd notice something suddenly rise in price by a ridiculous amount - for example, a toaster worth £20 that wasn't selling very well would suddenly go up to £40. It would stay like that for 6 weeks. Then a new label would be issued - "HALF PRICE - ONLY £20!!" - and it would suddenly start selling!

Legally, if it has been at a price for 6 weeks, that can be classed as it's full price, so this is a perfectly legal thing to be doing - but the amount of people I heard saying "Oh look, half price! What a bargain!"
If I was able, I'd point out that it's not worth it, and point them to a better toaster!
Funny, but they didn't renew my contract...

Is that common behaviour for shops? We've certainly never done such a thing in the shop where I work, but then it's only a very small shop. smiley - erm

It seems to be here.

All 'sale' items are marked as having been at a higher price for 90 days. This could be anywhere in the country and may only have been in one store.

I think putting the price up and then down again is fairly rare, but certainly a lot of sale items you see will have been priced unreasonably highly in the first place. Caveat emptor - you should compare the price with similar items in other stores before calling it a bargain. I admit I'm not very good at doing that.

There are two stores that claim to price match in identical items.. *giggles*.. they might be identical, but they are not the same COLOUR! smiley - doh

better watch out for buying "new". nowadays electronics the competion is hard. they might resell "repaired" for "new". check for "factory seal" or ask for "absolute new" on the bill / reicipt. do you viscover that it is not new you can request a real new one.

yes it is. but how many people will report it appropriate agency. most will think that do not have proof. I know 2 people who bought same hifi system anvbroke down nearly the same time with same problem and both did not go back to the shop. sellers know that.

Here they are clearly marked up as 'reconditioned' or as a 'display model'. They are always significantly marked down and usually come with the same safeguards (for at least the first year) as buying new.
