I've noticed you (not) around and thought I'd drop a line to see if you were still here or if you'd gone elsewhere. I guess that if you don't reply you're no longer here smiley - sadface

It has been said that I'm not all here... or there... as the case may be. Whatever that may mean...

By the by... I came back!smiley - biggrin

Whay hey smiley - biggrin
As you've seen things have changed a bit round here.

So been up to much while you've not been round here. I've been on holiday and tried to get a new job (so far failed but still working on it). How's that course you were doing going?

'33' huh?

Good holiday? Where to? I've been far too busy to miss this place... no really I have... never gave it a second thought... plenty of time to catch up on some reading...

Did nearly have heart failure when I logged on at college and found the site had vanished!smiley - sadface Been busy today building a web-site, trying to get the printer to work with new computer (unsucessfully so far, no matter how long I make the interrupt times), and generally enjoying the new 24hr internet access (trial period, but impressed so far!) Seem to have spent a pretty busy few months... don't know how I'm going to fit it all round surfing time though...smiley - winkeye

Oh, and just started cycling again. *not literally of course*

How's life in the smoke been?

I decided it was time for a change and 33 seemed the right number to choose smiley - smiley

I went to Tenerife a few weeks back with the dive club. When I returned, I couldn't get warm for about a week it was so cold (this is not normal for me at all!)

I'd ask for the url of the website to take a peek, but it'd get moderatored out of the forum. Send me an email with it if you want to.

Been out anywhere nice when cycling since you started again?

The smoke is still here (standard response from me). I've got an interview tomorrow in the city to go and work in some it division of a bank (I was sent a 3 page job description that was high in buzzwords, low in the what you'd be doing stakes).

Ain't it clever how, even on the net, Radio 2 sounds all fuzzy and traditional radio signal quality!smiley - winkeye

Cycling, I travelled a couple of villages down the road and back. Sunny when I left, and it waited til I reached the farthest point, then peed down all the way back! Still nice and invigorating though.smiley - smiley Must definitely do it more often!

Do I have your e-mail address? I really can't remember. Anyway, it's a 'closed' site, so there wouldn't be much to see! Quite pleased with my first day's progress, but a long way to go.

So, what have I been missing?

One of my email addresses is [email protected]
Shame I can't really go and look at it but if you're happy with what you've got so far then go for it.
What's been going on, well the main thing was the shutdown of the site, the mass migration to yahoo groups and then the return of the site after being taken over by the BBC. There are still quite a few issues it seems with the moderation.

Everything in moderation, eh?!smiley - bigeyes

It does seem rather claustrophobic. Mind you, the outcome of some of the recent court cases over Internet copyright does give cause for concern, especially to a large corporation, like the BBC. I expect things will settle down in time. It could be worse...smiley - winkeye

The community doesn't seem the lively jaunty place it once was. People only seem to have one topic of conversation. Of course, it doesn't help when so many pages and most conversations are 'hidden'.smiley - sadface

Might have to go back to reading instead!smiley - winkeye

I think it might get better but with going offline for a bit and the new rules about moderation many have moved onto other places.

I've spent time at other sites such as floor 42 and the sci-fi vine before, but h2g2 'was' always better. It's a trying time.smiley - winkeye

All the more reason to do some serious sub-editing and entry-writing to pass the 'quieter' hours I guess...

smiley - hugHow are you feeling now? Still reeling from the shock I expect. There'll be good days and bad days, but there'll always be somewhere to turn.smiley - smiley

All we need to do is keep talking...

Thanks smiley - hug
It is still a bit of a shock, but I think I'm getting there. I was up at the hospital earlier today seeing the specialist diabetic nurse and dietician. I've just got to carry on going through the learning process of what I can and can't do, eat or drink. So far the worst bit is not being able to drink coke, I can't stand the taste of diet coke but I guess I'd better get used to it.

Thanks again.

You do get used to it... I can't stand ordinary Coke now!smiley - winkeye

A friend's brother has diabetes, but he takes a very... erm... relaxed attitude towards it. Put another way, he doesn't watch his diet at all, eats and (especially) drinks all the wrong things, and frightens people by suddenly passing out at odd moments! He's happy that way though.smiley - winkeye

I guess I'm going to have to get used to it!
I think at the moment I can't have a relaxed attitude, not till I know more about how it affects me and it's a bit more stable. I'm not keen on this passing out business, as someone I know with diabetes has said, it's seen as rather bad form these days to go hypo. Takes some getting used to this blurred vision thing but I'm told it gets better when it's all settled down.
