What happened!!???
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Feb 14, 2011
I'm in a shockingly bad mood today; my one and only subordinate did some very foolish things, and I've caught him out playing me off against *my* boss. I'll have to do something about him, but I don't know what. My options are limited. I have at least flagged the issue with my boss, so she's now aware that there's something silly going on.
But enough of that.
I got exactly what I expected for Valentine's Day. Nothing. This is good, as it means I don't have to be grateful in any way.
The food festival didn't get rained out after all, which is nice, but I do wish I'd bothered to go. Next year for sure.
And you're right about the weirdness of words. Any word looks strange if you write it often enough. The same sort of thing happens aurally if you say a word over and over again. Don't do this in public or you'll get people worried.

Wow, odd coincidence. I'm in a shockingly bad mood today. And it's work related too. I'm training someone at work and she is making me insane. On top of that my boss has asked me to do something that I'm pretty sure is impossible. Too much stress. I don't really like my job to begin with. Fortunately I'm almost done working on my resume and I'll soon be applying for new jobs. Fingers crossed.
I didn't get anything for Valentines day either. I was sick and stayed in bed. I also watched a Bruce Willis movie. It was a good thing I was sick. This older guy at work apparently gave me a valentine/gift or something and it would have been awkward if I had been there. Fortunately my boss made him take it back and I think she had a talk with him. He's always saying inappropriate things.
You'll have to tell me about the food festival next year. I'd be interested to hear what kind of different foods you got to try.
It's still cold here. On Wednesday morning we had the most enormous snow flakes that I'd ever seen falling outside my house! They were very wet and about the size of quarters. It was distracting as I was driving because as they zoomed past my car I could see them in my headlights and I was pretending that I was in a space ship and they were stars zooming past me It was fun though.
Unfortunately there was now snow once I got down the hill. I live near the top of a mountain and once I get down closer to sea level the snow is almost always gone.

Oh dear. Mr Older-guy-at-work doesn't seem to know what's appropriate. How much older? (Whatever the age, he's old enough to know better.)
I had a strange episode on the way home tonight. At the local shops (less than 100 metres from here) I ran into someone I used to know in Adelaide. I lost touch with her, then she moved to Canberra so she found me again, then I lost touch with her, then I ran into her in town, then I lost touch with her... The last time was about three years ago. So I ran into her again tonight. She's bought a house about 500 metres away. Let's see if we can stay in touch this time, now we're both homeowners and won't be roaming around so much.
And now, the weekend. I plan to do very little.

Mister older guy is about 20 years older than I am I think. And he totally doesn't know what's appropriate. He apparently knows he makes me uncomfortable, I heard him telling someone yesterday. I think my boss must have told him on Monday. But I told him that I don't take offence at what he says because he's like that with everyone. He's a funny guy. It's like he just has no checking station in his mind and he always just says whatever pops in.
That is a strange coincidence! Hopefully you can keep in touch now
My day was much better. I requested a private meeting with my boss this morning and we had a talk about how I was feeling and it's all sorted out now. I'm very lucky: my boss is more like my friend than my boss. Plus, she think's I'm a valuable employee and she's having trouble with the new woman too. My day was much less stressful.
I'm still working on my resume though. I'm putting it in tonight and hopefully something will turn up I'd like a job with more certainty. Being on a three month contract with no benefits sucks, especially when the company waits until the last minute to renew. The big wigs won't even let my boss talk about me until after 31 March.... but 31 March is when my contract ends..... so that's bad planning.
I hear it's supposed to snow tonight but I'm not seeing any snow. It's disappointing. Show is so pretty.

Keeping your resume up-to-date isn't a bad idea; I'm reasonably happy where I am, doing what I'm doing, but I keep mine ready in case something really good comes up. And short-term contracts aren't all that much fun. Even from the other side of the deal, surely your employers would prefer some sort of certainty too. This is why I don't understand the short-term contract thing.
It's raining again here. I've never seen Canberra as wet as it has been in the last few months. But I'm still not complaining. This way, I don't have to water the garden at all so I get more time for reading and generally being idle.
