I once had a w*rk colleague who habitually counted the hedgehog and badger carcasses on the road on his way to w*rk. I once recall him saying that the numbers of such carcasses had significantly declined the last couple of years (this was back in '94) and he said he thought it was an indication of the reduced numbers of such beasts, rather than more careful driving etc etc

on that account, yes I agree and my mistake in my other post, but I was trying to mean it in a sort of remorse for actions sort of thing, If you follow ?

OK ... remorse then! But I'm not sure ... I wonder if Chimps (to name just one) could not also feel remorse? How can one make a 'remorse test' to find out?

... and for that matter ... I think many *humans* might be incapable of remorse! Here in South Africa there's been a high profile murder trial in which a young woman was kidnapped and killed. Her murderer said it was the media's fault that he killed her because after he kidnapped her, there was so much media attention that he felt the heat was too much and so killed her so she couldn't later testify against him. He was caught anyways. He demonstrates absolutely zero remorse. He's acting totally self-righteous as if he's fighting for the cause of justice! There are others like him ...

it's the problem with mankind, we state that certain species are intelligent using ourselves as the baseline, but teaching a gorilla sign language etc or a dolphin to do tricks isn't a true test. If we ever do find their language and can interpret it, we would enslave it as mankind would not say it's equal to us.
Before that happens though, we'll probably wipe out all other intelligent species firstas we are doing now

Prof, 'Mankind' is not a homogenous, unified entity! Some 'humans' care very little about Nature, about plants, or animals - or each other! Others care a heck of a lot. I think in the long run, passion will triumph over apathy. Well I'll do my best, from my side!

As for 'enslaving' intelligent animals ... I think there's much more money, still, in enslaving humans. It's just done differently these days.
