It's not something I enjoy, nor do I do it very often. But I like the end results.

Being shorter than average, a lot of clothes need taking up a couple of inches.

But, having come from a long line of dressmakers, I was using a sharp needle (under supervision) almost before I could read or write. A lot of things were not so much taught as learnt by just sitting in the same room and watching. Including fixing the gaping front of a blouse by adding a small press stud (aka popper) in each of the worst gaps.

Anyway, seeing as I've got more time than money, it makes sense to do repairs and minor alterations when I can (and need to).

I learned to sew a little bit when I was very young, but never kept it up. I do do some minor alterations, like taking things up cause I'm slightly short too. But I do almost all my work by hand, not on a sewing machine. I never could get the hang of the machine.

My mother thought she could sew long after her eyesight was too poor to actually sew, so I took up a couple of pairs of pants for her (poorly) on the machine and she took credit so it's OK.

I've also ironed on patches to favorite pants which the dog ripped in his excitement to see me once or twice.
