I'm studying for my MA in philosophy at Warwick. What year are you in at Durham?
Passed through Durham once, on the train on my way way up to Edinburgh. Never seen the University - though I'm fairly certain there are some other h2g2 researchers who went to Durham. What is it like?

Hello! Thanks for dropping by. I'm a first year undergrad (who really must add some more information to his personal space some time). As for what it's like, I have the pleasure of being in a college noted for its welcoming atmosphere; which is a very good thing given that I'm far less outgoing in real life than I am on h2g2. I get the impression that people's experiences depend quite a lot on their colleges. Lectures mostly interesting, tutorials variable but on the whole good, bureaucrats terrible.
(I wasn't quite sure how to answer the 'what's it like?' question, so I've been very general about it; if you'd like more specific information feel free to ask.)

well I take it you are enjoying it?
I've never studied at a collegiate university so I have nothing to compare notes on the experience sadly.
What modules are you taking? With Easter break fast approaching I'm just finishing off a 5000 word essay for a module I've taken on the sublime in art. and I have my last class on Nietzsche on Tuesday.
I've got to plan my dissertation over Easter - the department expecvt me to submit a title to them when i get back and I've got to make some progress (read: START) an essay on Heidegger that's due middle of April.

Yes, I'm enjoying it (some parts of the logic course aside). The fixed modules for the first year are Knowledge & Reality (essentially a mixture of epistemology, philosophy of mind and metaphysics), Ethics & Values, Introduction to Logic, and Reading Philosophy (examination of three philosophical texts with a common theme, in this case religious attitudes: Plato's 'Euthyphro', Hume's 'Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion', and Kierkegaard's 'Fear and Trembling'). My free electives are History of Science (for some obscure reason taught by the Philosophy Department) and Early [i.e. pre-Socratic] Greek Philosophy (taught by the Classics Department and now finished apart from the exam because the lecturer is out of the country now and so compressed the entire course into a single term).
