Dragon Lord, before you and Saturnine start your little flame fest, I'd just like to say I am trying to stay relatively neutral here. One question, is your digibox your sole method of accessing hootoo? Just asking.

Oh? Why so? I ask purely out of curiosity.
It's just that I have a /really/ old PC somewhere which I'd prefer to use over the digibox, plainly for compatibility and performance issues .
I'm guessing it's not because of compatibility or performance that you prefer to use your digibox?

I myself use the PC and the Digibox as i found that, as stated by Emmily in the petition thread, that the digibox is faster when it comes to check messages/lurk...
Then again my PC is not the fastest of all and, of course, being on dial up doesn't help...
We sure should do our best to encourage digibox users to try using PCs more as, that way they would benefit far more from h2g2 and all the other great sites which are hosted by the BBCi...
It also helps when having to work on lengthy entries and of course when cut and paste facilities are needed...
It's also great to be able to check external links which have been posted in some threads...
Like for everything, i believe in encouraging people _instead_ of telling them what to do, but that's another subject...
Anyway, my point is that yep, PCs are far better than the digibox for a lot of things but the digibox is also better than the PC for other things... If that makes some kind of sense...

I use the digibox cuz i can sit in comfort on the sofa instead of sitting on a rock hard chair lol.

Well now I've heard everything.
Digibox. Good for anything over even the oldest of networked computers? I think what you mean by 'faster' is that the digibox's broadband connection is faster than your PC's dial-up connection, rather than it actually performing quicker.
For example, there's a browser for all kinds of computers out there, even some new mobile phones, called Opera; It claims to be, and in my opinion is, the fastest browser around. It does nothing for your actual connection speed, but it does have cleaner code, meaning that the heavy lag that Internet Explorer suffers from when even loading a new page is not present in Opera; There's a difference between the connection, and the software. Either can slow down how 'fast' the Internet appears though.

Aka... Your choice of words always fill me with astonishment...

The result is still the same though: I access my messages faster through the digibox than through my PC...

Wow. When I made the move from digibox to an old Intel P1 PC on a 56k connection I was amazed at how much faster it was - Strange.

aka... Fine, this is _your_ experience... I told about _mine_ and Emmily did the same about _hers_ before in another thread... So let just agree to disagree and not start trying to make the others look like if they were telling fibs ?!...

Hey! I just asked a question. How did this turn into a mini flame war again?
The reason I asked was simply to get an idea about who uses what. aka, I tend to agree with you about a lot of users being stunted by the digibox, and also that a lot of them, digibox or not are annoying components of hootoo. You really should separate the issues, though. I've met several digibox users here that are quite delightful as well as several PC users who are a pain.
One more question, though (just to stir the pot a bit more) Why do so many digibox users put lol on the end of their sentences, even when the sentence isn't the remotest bit funny?

I haven't a clue. I thought I was being friendly.

I hope what I posted wasn't *flamebait*
I just was expressing how I feel and asking fairly logical questions.....
