Hello! I'm Bob McBob, your guide to H2G2. I'm a real person (I think) so you can leave me a message any time you want (click on my name at the top of this message to get to my personal space, then click "Leave Message", or alternatively, click the "Reply" button under this message). I'm not the only person who welcomes people, in fact there's a whole group of us. Contact me if you want to know anything - what to do with your spork (smiley - spork), why some people have italic names or want to add to the longest thread in H2G2.

Welcome to H2G2!

The best guide to what H2G2 is all about is the <./>DontPanic-Tour</.>, which will tell you almost everything about H2G2, while also take a look at the new users' <./>Welcome</.> page.

You may be interested to know you can change your nickname, and the way you view H2G2 by clicking on the Preferences button.

Now that you've registered, you can not only <./>../Read</.> other entries, but can also write your own guide entries by clicking Add Entry (<./>UserEdit</.&gtsmiley - winkeye. Please note that the entry, and anything else you write, must adhere to the <./>HouseRules</.>. For more information on this, look at <./>Contribute</.>.

smiley - smiley You can now also comment on entries written by other people, and include some <./>Smilies</.> for good measure

If you need help with H2G2 click on <./>DontPanic</.> (or the "h2g2 help" button), and, as if by magic, your question will be answered.

If you get stuck by something in the real world, look at <./>AskH2G2</.> or <./>HowDoI</.>.

smiley - thepost Don't forget the weekly <./>ThePost</.>, and please look through the save the albatross pages at A552908.

Now I'll just nip off for a nice cup of smiley - tea and some smiley - cake

Hi Bob

Thanks for the welcome, I've had a look through the tour, and many other pages. One questions springs to mind, if I post an entry about a subject that no one else has, do I need to include background history, as I would like to add observational entries, that wouldn't normally include dates, places etc

Thanks
Simesy

There are really two parts to the guide, the Edited Guide and the Unedited Guide.

The edited guide is all the factual entries, which are full of all the facts, figures, dates and information. If an entry meets the Writing-Guidelines it can be submitted to <./>Peer-Review</.>, from where it will (hopefully) get picked for the Edited Guide. An example of an Edited Guide entry is cement - A1112176.

Anything else you write doesn't have to fit in with this, and can be as insanely opinionated as you want. To get people to read that kind of entry, submit it to the Alternative Writing Workshop (<./>Writing-Alternative</.&gtsmiley - winkeye. Examples of things that get put there are Wrapping paper conspiracy - A924455 and Quantum Life Moments - A186248. This is also the place for peotry and stories, and entries which somehow aren't suitable for the edited guide. The best Alternative Writing Workshop (AWW) entries get put into the recently launched Underguide (C1233).

To submit something for review, when you have written it, view that entry (outside the editor) and click on Submit for Review (on top-right).

Feel free to look through the entires already in the review forums.
