?
Artisan Posted Apr 27, 2005
Ach my b/day was pretty much same old same old Venus with not much to talk of, it's like that when you get to my age!
You may not believe me but I've had problems trying to access this thread for days.
I have noticed you have gained another admirer over the last wee while, must be the delicately floral fragrance emanating from your personal space that attracts them..or is that the potpourri?
Or it may be a hormonal thing, it does take all kinds!Still, I'm sure any conversation is welcomed as this place does tend to become boring quite rapidly
I'm beginning to adopt your attitude about being here Jen. I may even get to the stage where I wont come on at allbut don't really want that to happen..ach
On a brighter note the weather has picked up a lot and you should be enjoying your garden more.
I'd love a garden but in a way I'm glad I'm not responsible for the upkeep of one. Grass is a pain in the *ss. I cut my g/f's for her at the weekend and I ache all over, mind you her garden is the size of a small country and her mower is almost like a hoover with a blade. Not good!
Anyway enough of my ramblings, I hope your doing well and will chat soon,
Artisan x

Hiya G
I know what you mean about birthdays, i try and forget mine every year. My family have other ideas though and take pleasure in reminding me that i'm getting old
I don't really know much about the new admirer, he does like to talk to all the ladies though
The weather here has been a bit fickle, i guess thats normal for April eh! I just wish it would make up its mind, i never know what to wear!
Theres still no improvement with my health Though that did'nt stop me putting a small pond in the garden I won't tell you how much i suffered for that little stunt
Today is my day off, so its the usual housey stuff and then hopefully some rest time.
Speak to you soon

Hi, just thought I'd say theres a word related to gardening sticking one of the threads of Anagrammitis (croyden ship) it may well be the name of a plant, any ideas. Come to think of it now that I look at it, it could be hydro something.
Do you have fish in your pond or is it just for decoration?

Hiya G
The word you're looking for is hydroponics
Nope, no fish. Just some pond plants and a load of dead bugs Hopefully i'll get some live wild life in it once its established.

Thanks for that, I had worked it out after I asked, although you see Orcrist had posted (croyden) and that was throwing me
My mother has a pond in her back garden. It did
in the past serve as home to at least forty or fifty goldfish. After a few really cold winters my father decided to bring the fish indoors. I know the fish are hardy and could probably survive as they are cold-blooded, but I think he just felt sorry for them! So for a few years now they have been in an extra-large tank in their kitchen. You wan't to see the size of these fish, they're huge!
Sometimes when I come in, in the early hours of the morning , I can't help thinking what one would be like fried, with chips!
The pond just gathers old leaves now and is a wonderful mousetrap , but unfortunately shrews and moles sometimes fall in too. Oh well that's nature for you
The area is teaming with wildlife of all kinds, especially birds. At the rear of their house they have patio doors, and on occasion small birds have flown straight into them and either killed or stunned themselves.

It sounds like your folks have a lovely garden. I'm hoping to attract frogs to the pond, so far though its only been a drowning pool for spiders, worms and large grubs
I've created a flower bed around the pond, which i'm going to plant up today (arthritis be damned ) with grasses and tall verbascums to create some shade. Hopefully it will eventually prove to be a haven for wildlife

Their garden is beautiful, but at the same time impractical, in as such that the garden is very much quite a steep hill really, and both parents have had between them a hip and a knee replacement recently! On saying that they are still very active for their years, and they don't let much stand in their way. I just mentioned the rise because I think that how easily my mother could stumble and destroy the work that has been done on her hip. Scary, anyway, back to the pond!
Wouldn't the simplest method of encouraging them to your garden be to find some frog-spawn and introduce it to your pond?
That's of course with the assumption that they will in fact survive if your garden does not seem to interest them enough, in so much as that the young frogs can get to a nearby steam or marshy area and not be instantly sduashed by the traffic or the likes!
I can imagine your garden is very beautiful Venus and I'm sure spiders, worms and grubs would be very appetising for frogs..
I'd feel strange if I had to ignore another visitor to our conversation, so Hello there Detruitus!

Venus I've heard tale of grass/grass seed that only grows to a maximum length of an inch high...ever! Is this true or has someone been telling me porkies again?

I already get alot of wildlife in my garden. It backs onto an orchard, so alot of it migrates from there. I have frogs and a big brown toad lurking in the undergrowth, its only a matter of time before they find the pond I've also accidently dug up the odd newt, so theres a slim chance i may get them too.
I an imagine a steep garden must be a challenge for you folks to maintain. If its a long standing passion theres always a way.
a hornet has just wandered in through the air brick in my lounge. I hope it wanders out again soon, if it starts flying i'm outta here
Ok i'm back....its now a dead hornet...Jeez i don't need that kind of excitment first thing in the morning
I've not heard of any grass that only grows to an inch tall, but there is one that does'nt grow above 4 inches....you still have to mow it though.

I'm fine. (I think). More importantly how are you. You may not recognise me, as I've sobered up a little (not totally of course...). I'm sure you're busy down the garden centre at this time of year, still think of you.
Take Care
