ola night owl..
tsarina Posted Nov 9, 2004
pretty boring as usual unless we get a couple of nutters on the line to liven up the night
We work 12 hour night shifts here but the days off are fairly good thank god
What do you do then?
ola night owl..
wazzow Posted Nov 9, 2004
...
promise not to laugh but i work in the freight industry moving containers throughout the country by train....
nothing too exciting really but hey i get to play at being the boss on nights soooooooo
no jokes about cagoules & notebooks please..
my shifts are usually 10hrs,i did years of 12hr nights you must be wasted at the end of the week i know i am...
ola night owl..
tsarina Posted Nov 9, 2004
yep you've got it right there..........am usually like a wet rag and fit for nothing by the time we've done 6 nights out of 7........end up spending most of my first day off asleep
cagoules and notebooks never crossed my mind......honest
ola night owl..
wazzow Posted Nov 9, 2004
uh huh...
just though i'd get that in quick before you did..
i don't know how you do it,i find it difficult about 0300 to keep me mince pies open so how you do it....
anyways would you like some to go with the coffee....
ola night owl..
tsarina Posted Nov 10, 2004
if I was perfectly honest we don't manage it
Generally by that time in the morning it's pretty quiet round here with only the odd call coming in, so we put our feet up on another chair, tip the back of the chair back and close our eyes and doze
but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anybody or we might be for the 'chop'
Would love some thanx but I don't think my waistline will appreciate it
Are you busy tonight?
Where are you from by the way?
ola night owl..
wazzow Posted Nov 10, 2004
mine either but what the heck...
i have enough trouble trying to keep in shape as it is but never mind...
as for being busy..no not really, but to be honest its a welcome quiet the last three months have been for want of a better word or words bl**dy hectic...
so the quiet is great ,at the mo were listening to 70's rock.... & i suppose i'll have to break the dvds out shortly..
as for where i am ..well ever heard of sunny felixstowe in suffolk...(me neither) its always raining...
not the greatest of places sort of an annex to eastbourne..
don't suppose you want another ..?
ola night owl..
tsarina Posted Nov 10, 2004
Believe it or not........I've actually been to Felixstowe Was visiting a friend in Ipswich in the summer and went down to the seaside in Felixstowe and walked on the beach
Saw all the container parks too...........quite impressive!
We're not allowed music where we work but sometimes we bring a portable DVD player in and watch a film in the wee small hours
JUst been on a break but never say no to another
ola night owl..
wazzow Posted Nov 10, 2004

were you down for long...?,did you have chance to sample the marvy ipswich night life...
shame about the music but i can understand why...
well for watching tonight if i'm lucky i have spiderman 2 & harry potter 3,coyote ugly & alien vs predator..
ola night owl..
tsarina Posted Nov 10, 2004
White no sugar for the please (is it freshly percolated by any chance
)
Only spent a couple of days in the great Suffolk metropolis so no..........didn't sample the exotic night life
Don't think anyone's brought a DVD player in tonight so looks like it'll be chat on here or feet up and eyes closed! I've got a book to read but don't think I can be a***d to be honest
ola night owl..
wazzow Posted Nov 10, 2004

go on then ...what are you reading anything good...
ola night owl..
tsarina Posted Nov 10, 2004
I'll take a then
I never go out in Cardiff either..........am not much for night clubs and bars.........prefer somewhere quiet where you can hear yourself think and manage to talk to whoever you're with Dinner for 2 in a nice country restaurant with a blazing log fire and a decent bottle of red (bliss)
Am readin a book by Edward Rutherford called 'Russka' - bet you're none the wiser are you
ola night owl..
wazzow Posted Nov 10, 2004
ok you've pegged me for a heathen...
no i have'nt ..i like to think of myself as reasonably well read but i must admit defeat...
no don't get me wrong i like the meal for two thing & i enjoy a nice bottle of red but this job is fairly stressfull so going out & having fun every now & then does the soul good, well it would if i could remember where i left mine......
so whats your fave food then.....?,which reminds me i'm hungry now...
ola night owl..
tsarina Posted Nov 10, 2004
I shall now update your literary education
Edward Rutherford has written a series of novels chronicalling (think that's how you spell it but doesn't look right ) the history of a given place from prehistoric times to the 20th century! It usually follows 5 or 6 named families through the centuries. Very well written and researched books but not everyone's cup of tea I guess! He's written about London, Salisbury (Sarum) and the New Forest and I have read all those so am now reading the last one on Russia
As for going out and having fun being good for the soul........that would depend on how old the soul is.........mine (when I can find it ) is getting on a bit now
Perhaps yours isn't quite as old???
Fav food......hmmmmmmmmmm...... let me see......anything hot and spicey but my home made chilli is a cracker
So what's yours?
ola night owl..
wazzow Posted Nov 10, 2004
ahhh well the soul is 37.....ishhhhh..
oh & thanks for the update i now know something new....
chilli....great one of my favourites too..,do you cheat or do you use the kidney beans.....
well to be honest if its food its favourite...
as for authors well perhaps a tad predictable but tolkien, pratchett.eap, conan doyle, autobiographys etc blah blah...,that is when i get chance to read them..
so how many of you are on overnight & being nosey.... what sort of centre do you work in..?
ola night owl..
tsarina Posted Nov 10, 2004
Hmmmmmmmmmm your soul is a wee bit yuonger than mine then
I make my chilli from scratch - all fresh ingredients apart from the tomato and kidney beans which are tinned - saves a bit of time and effort Next time your passing thro Wales give me a call and I'l make you one
The actual night team consists of 4 of us plus a supervisor but there are a few other bods about until 2.30am and then we're on our own until about 6am when the morning shift start arriving We work for one of the new directory enquiry services (118888) NOT 'the number' I hasten to add
ola night owl..
