One online and the other in real life. The Christmas get together was great fun.

who is coming to this one then? where are people staying/what time does it go on to? rounders sounds energetic! gotta work the cake off somehow I suppose.

Menza Posted Apr 13, 2000
Well the rounder will probably be in the Park during the afternoon, but then there is a plan to go to the pub for the evening. All this is in central London, so I guess you either go home or get a hotel at the end of the day.
And how come you always post just as I'm about to log off?

intuition?
i've just re-read some of the earlier posts, and it's reminded me of something i've been meaning to ask you. how do you get music (or any sound) in your page?
a very merry un-birthday to you
Menza Posted Apr 14, 2000
Like I did for the F&F. Well you have to use an appropriate HTML code to link to a sound file. But remember that the sound file should be small cos it has to be loaded wach time loads your page. .mid flies are the best for this.

and now in English?
does the sound file have to be on the web already, or on my computer? how do i link to it/run it? *smiles sweetly to try and cover her total incompetence*

Menza Posted Apr 14, 2000
OK, here is the code to I used to get the music on the F&F
Where the bit between the "" is the web address of the sound file. So yes the tune does have to be on the net somewhere.

thankyou. can i ask one more daft question? how do i know the address of the sound file? i know this is probably very obvious, but i can be very dim. {i don't even have to try!} hence my use of the cut-and-paste code in my page!

Menza Posted Apr 14, 2000
You should have an address given to you by your ISP for your web space. You will probably have to copy the sound file onto your own computer and then upload it into your web space. the address will just be the address of your web space with a /file.typ put at the end.

this is starting to sound way too complicated. i just log on, surf and sometimes find a really good site like h2g2 to play with for a while.
so what is the plan for the 'virtual' birthday party?
a very merry un-birthday to you
Menza Posted Apr 14, 2000
Mess around for a while, make some trouble, get steaming drunk and pass out. Not too different from the real one actually.

Menza Posted Apr 14, 2000
Maybe, maybe not I hate drinking alone. Even if I am talking over the net.

she Posted Apr 14, 2000
it sounds like there'll be plenty of real and virtual drinking going on around here. especially in the F&F. but i guess it wouldn't do for the barman to have too many.

Menza Posted Apr 14, 2000
There are several relief bar men when I'm not arround.

she Posted Apr 14, 2000
that's a relief. is that 'not around' as in passed out?
i hope i'll make at least one of the parties. i shall certainly be there in spirit!
