Luckily I only see my boss about once a week, so I can generally fake it for the 10 minutes while he is here.

We're so self-dependent that we make our boss idle. 
And as we all remember from our maths lessons:
idle boss = ( jumpy, annoyed employees )+ ( one slacker who plays on h2g2 too much )
