Better than discussing it in the middle of the 'What music...' thread, anyway.
I was in fact listening to the whole of Machina. It's my sister's album (I steal her music when she's not looking) but sometime she's going to notice and I'll have to buy my own copy.
You have a very nice taste in music, btw.

*nods* that thread is nuts.
I don't have that. I have Mellon Collie, Adore, and Siamese Dream.
Is that good? (I'm sure it is, but I ask anyway )

I remember when that thread began, way back... it seemed so innocent at the time...
I think Machina's very good, but then I am a bit weird.
And my taste in music is pretty diverse.

I don't remember when it began... I never really looked at the askh2g2 page back then. Nor do I now, but still.
I guess I'll probably end up getting it at some point.
Diverse? You've seen my list of music that I particularly like... diverse as me?

Diverse? Well, I think at least as diverse as you
'From Tchaikovsky to At The Drive-in', as I said in the H2G2 Post.
Various rock, jazz, ambient, dance, techno, indie, punk, metal, classical...
But I do have a very strong dislike for manufactured bands.

Hey, sounds great!!
Manufactured bands... I dunno. I coudn't say I liked a manufactured "band" as a musical item, but sometimes I like the music. That's more to do with the person who actually wrote the music. But on the whole, I don't tend to like the music they give to manufactured bands anyway!
You know what? One of the boys in my drama class at school said to me the other day, "I don't listen to any music written before 1990." I'm still shocked, not only apalled by his closed-mindedness, but suprised by the fact that he is still alive!!!
God, music keeps me sane. Some of the other boys are sure I know the words to every song in the world because I sing along to every song they don't know played on the cd-player at school...

If I like some music, I like it no matter what it is. I just haven't ever found a manufactured band I liked. Well, a couple of Linkin Park songs are quite good, I admit .
(Ok, now if you're a Linkin Park fan I've probably offended you by saying that they're manufactured... erk).
I intend to go and see Idlewild when they come round this way - and then the day after that, Hundred Reasons are playing here... but I can't see both.
Hmm... a frustrating quandary.

Yeah, that's my point exactly. Music I like is music I like.
More insulted by you thinking I might be a fan! I've heard a couple that I liked, but that's it...
Flip a coin?
I couldn't choose for you, I've heard nothing of either of those.

Ooops. Sorry, I've been busy with work and Project X. Sorry, *not* Project X. Project X does not exist.
I have a 20-hour science project + presentation to 200 people to do next Monday. If I don't, I fail my entire course.
Panicking? Who's panicking?
Anyway, it looks like I won't get to either gig now.
A link for you:

'Hope is Important' is very good.

Thanks for the link. I'll get my hands on that song asap...
Don't panic. It'll all be over soon.
I've got French + German orals (GCSE) in just over 2 weeks and I haven't prepared for those yet... If that's any consolation.
Still, I wish you good luck...

Thank you! I haven't been online much in the last few days, though - I've been too busy!
The presentation was kind of a disaster. Still, I got it finished: it consisted of two investigations: one into microwave radiation and the other into the production of glass... oooh, fun...
The GCSE language orals are a pain. I remember mine from last year (French)... I made so many mistakes... The orals are the worst part, though. You'll find the actual exams much easier when the orals are over.
Don't worry - so long as you prepare a bit, it'll be fine.
Actually, I can't remember a single word of French. I much prefer Japanese (Nihon-go).

Is quite fine - I've not been online much recently either.
What a strange presentation...
At least it's over now, eh?
Yeah, I'm dreading the orals. All the practice papers we've done (listening/writing/reading) I've got a band 8 which would mean an A* in that paper... But I'm so going to fail on my orals.
And !!!! My school told us they were going to do Japanese, but they couldn't find a teacher.
Instead I can learn Italian, Mandarin, or Spanish. I'm going to do Italian and Spanish... Easier...
Et le francais ce n'est pas dificile... Si je peux le parler, n'importe qui le peut parler.
(Mais je ne peux pas...)

Short post:
Watch out a moderator doesn't get you for posting - gah! - French!
My page was hidden for a while due to some Japanese words on it.
I have a few Chinese friends, and I'd love to learn Mandarin... there are no teachers here, although one of my friends has offered to teach me

Oh, and don't worry too much about the orals.
I got a C in my GCSE English 'Speaking and Listening' (20% of the grade), but I got an A* overall. I know 'Modern Languages' count the oral slightly higher, but don't go thinking that you'll fail or get a really bad grade just because you don't feel prepared.

Hehe, it's not that I don't *feel* prepared, it's that I *haven't* prepared. But I did a practice oral thingummy this lunchtime with the German lady, and I didn't mess up too badly, in fact I think that if I didnt' prepare at all I would be OK. (German at least)
Yay, I'm going to get As in French and German. *giggles*
