My apologies for being one of the contributors who spoilt the 'pope not dead yet' thread for you. I do feel contrite & will endeavour not to get embroiled in Apple baiting in future. Employing the suggested 'thread bomb' idea just doesn't seem to have taken off.

Teasswill there is NO need for you to apologise at all. It was Adeleide I was wound up with, not you.

I've always loathed sloppy thinking, and in the last 6 months I've come to fear it, and Adeleide combines sloppy thinking with impervious smugness in a way which is truly astonishing.

Personally, I think she *should* be called on it. Memes like the homosexual / paeadophilia one (so successfully squashed by Z, bless him), and the 'not imprisioned since the 1920s' one need to be quashes - otherwise people think they are true.

It is oddly educative since I, for one, have to look up information to back up my arguments with, so I now know much more about the treatment and imprisionment of homosexual men in the UK since the 1950s than I did before.

So - no apology necessary. I've had an unusual amount of time this week and would only have hung on in there till Monday anyway.

I do feel contrite though, about poking fun at someone who seems so intellectually stunted. We should try to be polite & succinct in our rebuttal, rather than sink to her level.
As you say, funny how it spurs us to be even better informed.

My personal speculations around Adeleide are based on some kind of life-crisis two or three years ago, followed up by sporadic or inadequate medication since then.

That seems to me to be the most likely explanation for that particular mix of passion, clouded thinking, inconsistancy and shrill denial of what she has actually said and done.

If she had a shred of self-awareness or honesty about her situation (as Kaz has, for example), I would find it much easier to cut her some slack.

As it is, we not only have sloppy thinking, we also have revision of history and such vocal denials of the truth that she is, in fact, impossible to deal with.

I don't think she is stupid. I think she *acts* stupid. There is a world of difference.

Anyway - let's get on with stuff. But take care, and keep on keeping on.
