Hello B
I've been luring at the atelier (F38024?thread=459053&skip=1196&show=20)
If you're still interested in books to chill out with:
- 'Buddha Da' by Anne Donovan
(http://www.orangeprize.co.uk/2003prize/shortlist/donovan.shtml /
http://www.orangeprize.co.uk/2003prize/shortlist/donint.html)
- 'The Last Samurai' by Helen DeWitt
(Chatto & Windus, 2000, £16.99, ISBN 0-7011-6956-7, hbk
Vintage, 2001, £6.99, ISBN 0-09-928462-6, pbk)
Both of which I'm quite sure you'd enjoy; I sure hope both authors will write more!
I also liked very much:
- 'Fugitive pieces' by Anne Michaels (not exactly a story to chill out with. But beautifully written - she comes from poetry...)
http://www.library.utoronto.ca/canpoetry/michaels/pub.htm
- 'The wig my father wore' by Anne Enright
Not quite sure about the latest one I read; it didn't make me laugh as much as 'promised' on the back of the book - but now I find the story lingers in the it back of my head. It's set in the book publishing business, so maybe that aspect makes it interesting for you:
- 'Foul Matter' by Martha Grimes
best wishes

Long time no type, sunny - how are you?
Deliciously enough, my ex has just sent me an Amazon voucher...!

good timing!
I'm fine, thanks. Apart from not having enough holidays - and as long as that's my only complaint I don't think I should be complaining..
And you? Planning to work abroad again?

Hoping to, but nothing definite.
I bought "Buddha Da" because I used to hang out with the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order in Glasgow, and it looked fun. Thanks for the recommendation.

If I had to chose one of the five for you, it would have been this one. And then Samurai..
Good luck with everything!

You have an atlas handy? Open a page at random. Left a bit! Yep! Right there!
Europe is the most practical of course, and I prefer northern Europe and the German/Scandi languages to southern Europe and the romance languages. But it is in the lap of the goddess.
