A granny who doesn't know what a mugwump is? 
It's a slang term from the late 1800s, and there was even a minor US political party by the same name. Basically, it means someone who doesn't commit to any particular position, but sits on the fence, "with his mug on one side and his wump on the other."

Thank you for that explanation - I have obviously not been a fully made-up Granny until now, but my education is complete, thanks to you.
Seriously, thank you for taking the time to tell me that, I really have never known what a Mugwump is, although I have heard the term before.
