*feels a little confused and somehow vaguely chastened by the choice of descriptor, but nonetheless honoured to be the alphabetic leader of the Dirty Dozen*

I refrained from any merry commentary on your cv pages, cos I'm convinced that propective employers are humorless, but I wanted to say how impressed I am with what you've managed to do with your life, considering how much less life you have lived than me.

What does TAFE stand for?

*feels a little embarrassed, that he couldn't think of another word staring with 'v'...smiley - tongueout I must admit I was very glad to have you up there, finally, too (along with Looney and bubster), 'cause I couldn't handle not having your bookmark when I needed it!*

Thanks for that consideration of my pages, 'Lil. I'm not sure whether to encourage peolpe to comment on them or not - a prospective employer would certainly get a good idea frrom that of the kinds of people I associate with, if nothing else! I think your self-deprecating comment about age is merely a product of your rather successful association with the cause of 'the young' on the site - age is not a thing to be prejudiced about, it just happens...smiley - winkeye *smiles in a wizened way as youth passes him by...smiley - smiley* Added to all of which, you're not THAT much older than me.

'TAFE' stands for 'Technical and Further Education' - what the English used to call, I believe, 'tech colleges'. We used to call them that, too, but then tertiary education came into fashion, and it was no longer considered good enough to educate your young'uns in a tech college, so they became 'vocational schools' instead.smiley - winkeye Nowadays I say to these youngsters that I'm 'going to the tech library', and they have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.

Oh, and I share the guilt you feel about not processing batches faster. Mike A's output was phenomenal, although he probably dropped stitches. Personally I think there ought to be a lower age limit on subhood, if not ACEhood.

My last batch contained nine rejections; one of the articles, titled "On Men", was one sentence long, contained the words 'b*****d', 'post-it' and 'stapled', and was by a bloke. Although the concept was promising, I felt the content was insufficient. smiley - bigeyes

My next batch has three rejections, and most of the rest are 'maybes'. I've tried to endorse your (and Loony's) method of collaborating with researchers to contribute extra input before something's accepted, but I seem to get batches from people who don't come around much, if at all, anymore. I can't do the extra research myself, much as I'd like to, because my 'net access is just not good enough, and the articles tend to be about things that I can't consult other ready sources for. It's part of why I love the job, but also a big part of what makes it most difficult.

I wouldn't mind a lower age limit on subhood, but I wouldn't want to stop doing it because the place was swamped with young facessmiley - bigeyes! I know what you mean about 'dropping stitches', too - it seems there's been a bit more of that happening lately.

My 'funny but not quite the whole hog' types of articles are usually far more overexpressed than that! I think you lucked out...smiley - winkeye

I've been thinking about it all day, or at least during the times it took pages and threads to load, which was most of the day ... and came up with a handful of V words, both positive and negative.
Vivacious, vapid, vigorous, violent, vegetative, virtual, vaporous, vindictive (I hope not), vigilant, vainglorious, voodoo, vorpal, voracious,
,
,
versiform I like.
