I'll do that, but I won't be able to until I get home, which will be about three or four hours from now...!
TAG!!!!!
Daisy Posted Jan 27, 2000
why?
well, I guess that won't be such a big deal since I'll be getting home then too. What exactly is the time difference between us anyway?
TAG!!!!!
Hypoman Posted Jan 27, 2000
I'm not sure why that is - I might have to go and investigate on my ISP's home page. It's not something I've ever really thought about before, but I guess that an email service you can only use at home is pretty useless...
The time difference is pretty big. You're in St. Louis, yes?
TAG!!!!!
Daisy Posted Jan 27, 2000
St.Louis, yes. My family lives in Europe and that is a 7 hour difference. I'm guessing that the difference between you and me is close to twice that. I guess I could tell you that it's midnight here now which would make it...what time over there?
TAG!!!!!
Hypoman Posted Jan 27, 2000
A little after 5 pm now. The difference is 17 hours, exactly, according to the Australian Whitepages time converter which they have for international calls. That means you're 17 hours behind us - so we're nearly at the end of Thursday while you're just starting out...
I THOUGHT St. Louis was in Louisiana - again: duh!
What are your family doing in Europe? Have they always been there and you've just finished up in the US for study or something?

Just FYI or for snickers and giggles... Perth is 12 hours ahead of US Eastern Time in the US summer, and 13 hours in the Aussie summer.

my brother and sister are just really cool writers (novelist & poet respectively). They thought it would be cool to live over there. It's cheaper to live there and they make more money than they would've staying here. I guess it's been 7 or 8 years now.

Anonymouse Posted Jan 27, 2000
It's more expensive, too.. and the exchange rate is usually -awful- for the Aussie side..
Of course, for those who get their money stateside and live in Oz... erm...

Hypoman Posted Jan 27, 2000
Yeah Nonnie, I've only been paid in U.S. dollars for one stretch of six or so months - but I was able to live on that money for discretionary purchases for two years!
Novelists in Europe, Daisy? I thought that that sort of thing went out of fashion with that bloke who Michael Palin was making series about not long ago - what was his name *skulking in embarassment that he can't actually remember - he wrote "The old man and the sea", etc.*?

(you should be on Jeopardy, or something)

Hypoman Posted Jan 27, 2000
I've heard of this magic "Jeopardy" thing - what is the actual deal with that? I'm sure we've had similar shows in my memory in Oz, but I can't remember the exact procedures involved in each...!

Daisy Posted Jan 27, 2000
how's this---I'll tape a week's worth of Jeopardy and send it to you...will our tapes work in your VCRs?
