Where are you?

Where have you gone? Are you well? Have we upset you? Sorry if it was, nothing intentional. I see all your messages have been wiped too. Come back, all is forgiven (whatever it was).

I've been on these boards only intermittently the last few weeks, but I too wondered where you were, KK. But thanks for taking care of my SF affairs...

Whatever it was, I'm still better out of it ... and even the temptation to lurk is diminishing by the day

Welcome back to land of the (nearly) living! It's not been the same without you.

Couple of snorkies, some of their phraseology could be nearly you.

It's not me in pre-mod, Solly, you do know who one of them is though ... 1018+1.

Also saw the text that was referred to in 1021, before it was red-carded ... thanks to the Urban Dictionary I understood what was posted) and now I know what PIQ really thinks, I really am out of here.

The Beeb has figures about the lurker:poster ratio, I think it's about 25:1 but don't know whether that's an overall figure or just for ML (or even if I have the right ratio). When I joined hootoo, I became aware that it's a deceptively public place although sometimes it must be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

A carefully crafted sentence posted late last night, Wed 29, revealed that at least one other person has been browsing this conversation. I don't know yet whether that person will drop in here again but this is for them:

Good afternoon. Slightly more private than the other boards, this one you have to go looking for (which is gramatically incorrect but I can't be bothered, I've been reading the apathy thread).

Loved the apathy thread, can't be bovvered to go through pre-mod on yet another set of MBs right now.

Someone was on a mission, weren't they? Apart from routine browsing and lurking, that is. Definite need to step back, a bit of inner work and then decide what comes next, I'd say ... well, it's what I'd do

Hello, KK! Thanks for your message on my very own Researcher's board. I didn't know someone had been impersonating you. One of the regular bunch, you say?! Strange, very strange. Well, let me tell you, you're such a vibrant and energetic person/poster that I can imagine someone endowed with less vitality might become anxious and envious... But it would be a real loss if it would scare you off these boards for good. Don't go away (although I've been, strenuously 'filling in the lacunae'...)

All the best from Jez

Aw, thanks Jez ... no, it was a troll who set up an ID for the specific purposes of using my name and (rhyme follows) being a pain.

Unfortunately (thank you, God by whatever name!) my alliterative nickname had a bulimic effect ('yeurgh' / 'yuk') on said troll which cracked me up because I am a Taurean ... bit of an own goal, innit smiley - winkeye

Said troll still around in at least one other alter ego but posting innocently, as is often the case, I understand ... one of the benefits of this particular trollery was that I installed Firefox plus Jont's and Achilles's Script; the amount of troll data gave me plenty of test material so I learnt how to use the Script (thanks, guys, it is fabulous!).

'Fraid I am not in a fit state to drive right now due to a ... I have some great material if you want to consider a penny dreadful some time; Peets Place should need it. Other than that, I would be undaunted ... right now, full of absinthe-induced Dutch courage!

Don't stay away so long next time (yes, we both have birthdays coming up smiley - winkeye

Hello, KK!

Funny - I just fired up my computer and checked the boards, and who should I see - you!

There is a reason for my absence, of course, as you know (writing), but - there have been two elections in the Netherlands the last three months in which I was involved. My party, the Socialist Party, has become one of the great political forces, behind the Christian Democrats and Labour in membership and seats. Heady times. This also took up some of my time, as you can imagine. I hope to make amends though and join in more than I have done lately, because I enjoy your and others' virtual presence a lot.

You've become quite a pro with Jont's and Achilles's scripts, I see... I always thought when I suggested some nice technical possibility to you and you said that was too difficult for you to understand 'The lady protesteth too much'. Now I know for certain. There's nothing wrong with that brain of yours, that's for sure!

Groeten uit Delft!

Jez

Without you here to guide us, Jez, I didn't realise that there had been more elections in the NL. I do recall that the election late last year gained your party many new seats, but iirc the overall result left no clear winner and no good alliances seemed likely to be formed. I take it that led to another election being called? No matter, I can do some research and let my unpaid Dutch political advisor continue with more pressing matters.

I suspect I am the happy user of around 10% of the Script and, for the time being, that will have to do. Firefox is a much better browser than IE, although I am still using IE for most of my non-Beeb browsing.

Greetings on a breezy morning from Kent!

This unpaid Dutch political advisor will help you out (I hope you didn't beat me to it and you're now completely in the know...)

The national elections of 22 November 2006, that turned out so very favourable to the SP, haven't led to a new government with us in it. The Christian Democrats (who won most seats) didn't want to govern with TWO socialist parties (one in name only - Labour -, the other one the genuine article). It was no use negotiating. We didn't want to compromise on essential points in our program and the CDA didn't budge an inch either. So now we have a government of CDA, Labour and a decent, small Christian party, the CU (Christen Unie). We'll see how long it'll last.

With regard to the second election, in the Netherlands there's one administrative layer between local and national, and that's provincial. So we chose members for 'Provinciale Staten'. And there the SP again tripled its amount of seats, which reassured us that our great victory a few months earlier hadn't been a fluke, but is solidly based.

That's it...

Warm wishes from sunny Delft, KK!

Jez

Thanks, Jez, I could have floundered struggling to find that out and your explanations give me as much info as I, here, need to know. Glad to hear the SP is consolidating its' gains.

This is by way of a 'where are you?' back at you. I've just installed Burrrn, as you suggested ages ago, but all it wants to to is install itself. How do I get it to run? I can see nothing on the website that could help.

Meanwhile, I've uninstalled my trial version of Nero - although it keeps 'interfering'! - and can't remember (or find) whatever I successfully used before to burn wave files to cd (in despair, I converted the flac files).

Now stuck with an EST download that I can't put onto cd.

Please consider this to be an SOS 2nd class btw.

Greetings to you all from breezy and slightly overcast Kent!

Hello, KK! I've just put a question to you in the Snorkies thread...

Jez

Where are you?

Post 18

Hi, Jez, saw your message just now on the snorkies thread but would be flea-bound so I've come here (and I got myself well slapped for giving I _was_Lillian Script help on the snorkie thread too!).

I installed Burrrn this morning, taking it from

http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=6

It creates a shortcut to the .exe file and that immediately takes you to the installation options of burrn and/or the associated cue files. I put it in my C:\program\ directory (along with BitTorrent and UTorrent and the like), and it completes the installation.

So I believe I have installed it (it took longer to install the first time I did it) but have ground to a halt otherwise with it.

(In truth, I converted the flac to wave again and used Explorer to put the wave files into Windows Media Player playlist and burned them from there).

I know you said it worked from flac to burn, so that would be useful instead of having to piddle around changing formats.

Thanks for such an immediate response too, you don't change at all smiley - smiley

Okay, KK, so you have installed it. When you start the program (if you're able to?!), you ought to see a rectangular window, with a button saying BURRRN in the upper right corner and others saying Clear, Add et cetera. If you click on Add, you can go to the directory where your files are stored, choose the ones you want to burn, and they will appear in the window, numbered and well...

If you're not able to start the program, perhaps it's a permission issue and you have to use it as an Administrator.

Ah, you think maybe I should be checking my own permissions? OK, I can look into that, I assume I'll find it somewhere in the Control Panel (I'll quite happily put in the time learning how to use it, if only I can get it to run).

Will let you know the outcome, you can be sure of that!
