INS H1-B Visa

OK, I gotta say that I hear you loud and clear !
My girlfriend lives in Colorado, and I'm trying to get there. They said it would be easier to get an H1-B (work-based) visa than get a K-1 (fiance) visa.... so here I am.... still waiting for the former. I had an interview back in Feb '99, and the supposed 70 working days, has been and gone.... a long time ago.
The petitioner of the visa (the company I will be working for) were so sure that the visa would be ready on time that they encouraged me to resign my (at then) current job so as not to waste any time serving a notice period.... that was three months ago. I've now been "unemployed" for two months, with no reason to get any work here (UK) because it could still be "any day now".
Still, the Rockies are calling, and that's got to be better than south-east London.

Hi Calliope,
I also tried and failed to get a work visa. My problem was not being able to obtain a sponsor without first having the visa - a paradoxical situation. I am now looking to obtain a student visa since I am young enough (just) to put in a couple of years schooling and the student visa is supposedly much easier.
The purpose of my endeavours? I have a lovely girl that I want to spend some serious time with. If all goes well then we may just get married after my studies and I'll be applying for citizenship here in the US as here fiance - the same situation as JHS and similar to yourself. I'll be checking back here occassionally to see if you've found some kind of solution. Best of Luck.
