Visitor from the other side of the planet

Today my daughter is having her 30th Birthday and getting on a plane to come and see me. How exciting is that!? She'll arrive about 6am Monday (local Sydney time) but it will be about 7pm Sunday on her body clock.
I think I need to have a chat with her about the inadvisability of expecting me to turn up at the airport before sunrise on a Monday morning. But I will endeavour to be there.

Travelling to the UK

I am very excited. Wednesday, which is the day after tomorrow for anyone reading this in the future, I am catching a plane from Sydney to Hong Kong and then from Hong Kong to London Heathrow to see all of my lovely family. As several of you may know there are more family there now than when I left, due to reproduction mainly.
I'm guessing I'll be doing a fair bit of film watching and wishing I could get to sleep on the flights. I hope they have changed the films since I flew down in August - but I don't hold our too much hope.
I'll be in the UK for about a month and then I'll be flying back to Sydney via Singapore. I didn't want to get into a rut. So far I've done Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong.
The weather is lovely and sunny here with temp around 25C. What is it like in Blighty?

Overdue

I'm pacing the floor with no hope of being able to do anything useful. My daughter is 2 days overdue for the birth of her baby. I'm about as far away from her as you can be without leaving the planet. Everything seems to be OK with her, but I'm so far away!

4 Jacks and the Perfect Gargle Blaster!

Lady P got me thinking about how we could make the perfect Gargle Blaster. On the understanding that perfection is a work in progress I think everyone should imagine an infinite game of 4 Jacks - the drinking game with a pack of cards where the person dealt the first Jack names a drink. The second Jack names the "mixer". The third Jack pays for the drink and the 4th Jack drinks it.

Here is a pack of Pan Galactic playing cards. Interestingly enough every card is a Jack. I will deal a card off the top of the enormous deck and if you get a Jack (tee-hee!) you will have to name another "drink" that goes into the Gargle Blaster. You then name the next Jack for the next person and they name the drink.

So the first Jack is the Jack of Rippers with a nice picture of a Victorian London serial killer on it. Who will pick it up, what drink will be added to the infinitely expandable glass and what Jack will you deal to the next player?

Wild life

Here I am back in Sydney after a lovely time with friends and family in England. A funny thing happened while I was there. While walking with a Philippino friend along the canal he said, "There is a snake!" I thought he was mistaken and assumed he had seen a stick or something. Sure enough in the water was a snake with a big frog in its mouth. The snake had swallowed all of one of the frog's legs and was in a difficult position of having the body of the frog and the other leg sticking out of its mouth in opposite directions. It had reached a T-junction of digestion. I'm not sure how it resolved the problem.
