h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Lady P got me thinking about how we could make the perfect Gargle Blaster. On the understanding that perfection is a work in progress I think everyone should imagine an infinite game of 4 Jacks - the drinking game with a pack of cards where the person dealt the first Jack names a drink. The second Jack names the "mixer". The third Jack pays for the drink and the 4th Jack drinks it.

Here is a pack of Pan Galactic playing cards. Interestingly enough every card is a Jack. I will deal a card off the top of the enormous deck and if you get a Jack (tee-hee!) you will have to name another "drink" that goes into the Gargle Blaster. You then name the next Jack for the next person and they name the drink.

So the first Jack is the Jack of Rippers with a nice picture of a Victorian London serial killer on it. Who will pick it up, what drink will be added to the infinitely expandable glass and what Jack will you deal to the next player?

Well, I suppose for a Victorian-themed drink some people would go for absinth, right? But that feels too obvious (and besides, I don't like alcohol), so I'm gonna go with something else. If we're in Victorian London, I'm gonna go for some East India Company tea, freshly brewed and fragrant.



And in keeping with that trade theme, my next Jack is a Jack of all Trades. Go!

I think the next drink, then, should be something a worker would enjoy, so I'll add a beer from England. It's called Hoof Hearted. It's got a good flavour but people fall around laughing when you order it and point at one another.
