Hello. Your education looks fun.

Thankyou for replying to my book review. I find that often what I have to say on H2G2 gets ignored...

I hope you like my answer.

Hey Jimmy smiley - smiley

Yeah, my education is heaps of fun...I get to meet heaps of great people and spend a lot of time *out* of the classroom, which is awesome!

If you want to get more people to come and talk to you, a good way is to write something about yourself on your space...something that they can start a conversation about. Even just saying "I like x, I don't like y" will let someone say "But I like y, why don't you?"...I know that sounds a bit silly, but it works! Seriously! Trawl h2, see what other people do that works...make your space nice and then post around so that people see your name - they're hardly going to get to your space if there's nothing to link to your space! Whatever you do though, don't become one of those annoying people who say irrelevant things in order to get attention! smiley - smiley

I envy your fun education. I'm still in school(finished fifth form - year eleven - this year. Exams were too easy. But studying for them...

That's some good advice, I think I'll try it.

ugh...I *hate* studying for anything! You may well be sick of this question - do you know what you want to do after school?? Uni?

My brother gets his results from year 12 tomorrow...he's trying to pretend like he's not excited...hah! Doesn't fool me for a second smiley - winkeye

Sorry I haven't been online lately.
Not too fond of studying myself.

Nah, not really sick of that question, but I want to go to medical school. Hope I'll make it.

Your brother is lucky, I don't get my results until the end of January.
I hope your brther did well. Were his results as he expected? Were they as *you* expected?

Medical school??! Wow - that's pretty good! smiley - doctor

All the year 12 results come out mid-December, and then the offers (university placements) are mid-January.

He got 90.8, which means he did better than 90.8% of other people in the state which is a pretty phenomenal mark, especially considering he was involved in 5 plays through the year, directing one of them!! It wasn't as high as I was expecting for him, but he says it was higher than he expected, so that's good smiley - smiley

That's pretty good!smiley - smiley You obviously think very highly of your brother. How well did you do in the same exam?

I'll have to do very well in NCEA to get into medical school, but I'm confident for fifth form. In the practice exams I got excellence for biology, which is the best mark you can get, although I'm only expecting a merit from the final exam, which is the second best.

The mark is a ranking - it's the total of all his exams and then divided and tilted sideways and painted purple to make it make sense. In the end, the ranking is statewide - so he was in the 90.8th percentile in the state.

What does ncea stand for??

It stands for national certificate of educational achievement. for each achievement standard (each part of the exam) you can get not achieved (fail), achieved (a pass mark), merit (about 70-90%) or excellence (91-100%).

"The mark is a ranking - it's the total of all his exams and then divided and tilted sideways and painted purple to make it make sense. In the end, the ranking is statewide - so he was in the 90.8th percentile in the state."

that all sounds like a complicated process. surely there's an easier way!

but that's still a good result, isn't it?

Nope, that's the easiest way the people who run things could think of. It does make sense, really...it's a ranking rather than a mark, so it's spread like a bell curve for the whole state.

Yes, 90 is still a pretty phenomenal mark - it means he did better than 90% of the state.

I just got my NCEA results. I passed all but two standards. I needed 80 credits to pass, but I got 137.

However, my grade average was something like 61... smiley - sadface
