Hello!
Pete *not quite dead yet* Started conversation Jun 9, 2002
This is a random hello!
Well not so random, I was talking to Cthulhu and he mentioned you so I thought I would say hi..
But it's still random 'cause you don't know me.
So hi!
I am very very sugar high right now.. I hope you're having a good time too
Nice to meet you!

Hi Cymbeline!

Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 9, 2002
I usually go for Nerds.. boxes and boxes of Nerds.. I never have less than 7 boxes on me at a time..
The only really interesting thing I've done lately is I stayed with my b/f last night.. So that was fun.. And I've begged off work today so it's probably a big day of h2g2 for me..
I'm completely addicted to H2.. My boyfriend, when we woke up, said "I'm getting in the shower, do you want to go online?" Because he knows I'm all obsessive about this site lately..
What a cutie.
So what have you been up to lately??

Nerds?! Wow - it's ages since I've had any Nerds!
Sounds like you've got yourself a pretty nice guy there! How long've you been together?
I've just finished my first semester of my second first year of uni. That doesn't make much sense, does it?! I'm starting uni over, because I didn't like the course I was in last year...and I've just finished the first semester. Of the new course. Still not very clear, is it?! Ah well . Got exams next week, which I should start to think about studying for....one day...
*nervous breakdown*
ahem.

Uh-oh, you asked about the boyfriend..
*glows* I've been dating this guy from my work, Chad, for about 3 1/2 months.. I had a mad huge crush on him before that, but I finally went after him.. We occaisionally have our problems, and sometimes I like to b**ch, but I'm all gooey over him for the most part..
What about you, Caf? (Can I call you that? ) Are you attached?
School is just so much fun, isn't it? What are you studying now? Eek, finals.. Break a leg! (I'm of the school that tests are like a performance.. and plus I'm just a theatre dork..)
*Pats your shoulder* You'll do well..
Or you'll bomb all of them like I did..
But either way it will be over, right?
Eh, sorry, that wasn't very comforting, was it... You'll rock their socks, Cafram!

Chad...not *the* Chad?! Sorry...been watching Charlies Angels He sounds pretty nice, anyway
Nah, I'm not attached at the moment - trying to convince a guy that I live with (Halls of Residence - there are 40 of us!) that he *doesn't* like me and that he should leave me alone...not much fun, really. He's nice enough, just not....not....right.
I'm studying Outdoor Education, which means that I get to do a lot of hiking and rockclimbing and stuff - heaps of fun, but not a lot of time for very much else!
I do some stuff with my local theatre, not as much as I used to though (no time! ) - mainly backstage though! I love messing around with the lights and playing with gaffer tape
. What do you do? Performing? Or are you a God in black?
gotta run - driving my brother up to his rehearsal for West Side Story

Oooh, ooh, ooh! You're a techie?!?!? *bounces happily*
Sea 'n I are starting a techie's guild, it's in the baby stages.. But yes, I am a god in black.. In fact, I am studying to be God of the Gods.. in other words, an SM. *ducks assorted flying flan, strawberries, tomaters, and such* ..I live for theatre, even more so than I live for Chad..
Sucks when you just want to be nice but it isn't going to happen, eh.. G'luck with that, unrequited love sucks.. :P
Yeah, Chad's a nice one.. I just hung out with him and his friend Brian.. we watched Moulin Rouge.. It's sad, I go to his house/Brian's house just to see their dads.. I am in serious dad withdrawal I think.. but yah, cried my way through MR and then headbanged my way home to System of a Down.. SUGAR!! *giggle*
Anyway back to theatre... West Side Story, what level production? My actual first experience with tech was that show, when I was twelve.. an older friend was into tech, and I just hung about backstage and helped move junk..

A techies guild?! Cool!
You want to be a stage manager?! *quivers in fear* I'm sorry! I didn't do it! It was that girl who does the follow spot...I *told* her not to, she never listens!
How come you go to their place to see their dads? Where's yours? I used to do that a fair bit too - nothing too strange about it
Yeah unrequited love does suck. Ah well. You get that
West Side Story - being put on by the local theatre company (we have about a 100-seat theatre - best for miles around!!)...unfortunately the director has never directed before, although she's been around the theatre for ages and has a great choreographer and vocal coach and musical director etc...they still haven't got a stage manager though, and the show opens in about a month! I think they had trouble casting it - not enough guys who can dance, surprise surprise! My brother, however, gets to play the one who sings the Officer Krupke song, which is pretty cool.

Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 11, 2002
*My dad lives in Alberquerque, New Mexico whilst I live in California.. So I see him about once in a blue moon.. And plus the dads take such a flattering interest in my life..
*Ack.. a month to open and no SM.. That, right there, is the stuff I am going to get getting nightmares about in a few years.. A phone call saying "we open in three weeks, can you manage this?" Sounds like a cool show.. *snaps fingers once for old times' sake*
*I just feel the need to state that I am in love with chicken pot pies.
Oi.. it's 6AM here so I think I'm off to bed.. If, in 5 minutes, UH gets on, enjoy a nice belly laugh, because it's definitive proof that I am having an Arthur Dent sort of moment. Yes, darling, the Universe IS out to get me...

My dad used to live only an hour away, and I wouldn't see him literally months at a time ...then the idiot went to England for 6 months
. Thankfully he's back
How far (in travel time) is your dad from you?
I've had phonecalls saying "we open in a week, can you do lights for us?" - never ever again will I do a show without first reading the script! It was just plain painful...the parties were ok though
I'm distoibed!
What on earth is a chicken pot pie?
6am?! I hope you don't have anything to do today! UH won't come on again for a while - he was around before but had to go shoppping and do some study and stuff, I think.
Hello!
Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 11, 2002
My dad is about a 3-4 hour plane ride away from me. So I basically see him once a year if our timing is right.. Silly fool. Even seeing me for like a week is not good enough for him, he only wants to pay for a month.. but now I am too old and I have a life, I can't leave for a month randomly..
I'm sure you wanted to run screaming when they called you... See, go you, you're getting an actual skill from the theatre. So far, all I've got is a want to be in it, and also I've learned some superstitions and how to hem pants..
Sometimes I think the parties are why we do this.. I went to my first one a while back, and this friend of mine cooked us gourmet food and provided his house.. It was wonderful.. Of course, I got
as a skunk, but that's beside the point.. or maybe it IS the point..
A chicken pot pie is somewhat like shepherd's pie I think, it's a crust with white sauce, chicken, peas, carrots, etc, etc underneath, and then another crust so it is wrapped in crust. MMM yummy... I've eaten them for breakfast and dinner the past few days... They're lovely.
Yeah, I didn't have to do anything today, thank Bob.. I'm now convincing UH I'm completely corrupt.. It's rather funny, and yet, all of it's true.. How sad...

Ouch, that's a fair way to see your dad. How come he's that far away? Did he move away from you or you from him? It's not nice, anyway.
Nah, I didn't want to run screaming cos my boyfriend at the time was in the band...it was near exams in my last year of school though, which was....difficult...but theatre always gets the priority over everything else!
What superstitions do you have in your theatres?? Theatre parties are definately one of the main reasons to do shows - because mine is such a community theatre the parties are always fantabulous...lots of yummy food and lots of great people and lots of booze.
mm...chicken pot pie sounds good! I'm developing a soup addiction at the moment - the product of me spending too much time home alone with no desire to cook...and of corse soup is warm
convincing UH you're completely corrupt?! What would you want to do that for?!
Hello!
Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 12, 2002
Well, basically first we moved away from him, and then he from us. He was military and we had to move out of Hawaii due to the fact that it bloody costs too much to live there if you aren't military.. And then he moved here, same reason, and then moved to NM to work at the Los Alamos Natn'l Laboratory (place where they made the first atomic bomb). It IS too far away.. but he will just say, come to college here, if I tell him that.. *giggle*
Unfortunately, theatre does.. Which means you end up with abysmal grades in all classes except theatre ones..
We have a ghost light, a ghost to go with it , loads of the usual ones such as the scottish play, etc, and that's all I've learnt so far.. I shall have to tell you about my experience with Alfred next post..
Soup is good for the soul.. because it's all warm and yummy.. I especially love clam chowder and chicken soup.. (Simple tastes, grin)
Because it's funny to see him be somewhat impressed with my level of corruption..

You lived in Hawaii?! Wow...what's it like? I've never met anyone who's been there before....
Yeah, my dad's the same...I should move to be closer to him, aparantly, rather than the other way around
I didn't have *any* classes in theatre, but fortunatetly during high school I had some teachers who were also involved in the theatre...made things a lot easier
A ghost light?! Explain! The Scottish play...yes, heard of that one, but our theatre company doesn't go in for that sort of thing...Alfred?
Clam chowder?! What's *that* when it's at home?! Chicken soup...nah, I get chicken most nights where I live, so I'd go for anything *other* than chicken soup. Personally I like it with not too many things added - something thta can be sipped and not chewed is best
Just how corrupt *are* you?!
Hello!
Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 12, 2002
Hawaii is very.. tropical. (i.e. warm and sticky unless you grew up there) And it's boring. It's an island, there's only so many places you can go without a plane.. I suppose it would be fun if you could legally drink and go clubbing.. But when I was little we just avoided the whole downtown/waikiki area..
I think it's a campaign for Dad's to want us to do things their way. Because they know they can't MAKE us anymore, and that messes with their heads.
In HS my theatre teacher was the coolest guy ever - I used to hang out in there on weekends with him, and such.. 'Cause I lived right by the school.. (Told you I was a theatre dork!
Ghost light = a light that is always on the stage. Even when we close up for the night, there is always a ghost light on, i think it's for some reason like if there is no light on the stage, then we aren't making art, and we are always making art.. Not too sure why it's called a "ghost" light. Alfred would be the ghost we have to go with it.. I've had him rattle the blinds at me and just general creepiness whilst at the theatre at night.. But he's pretty cool.
I eat soup, not sip it.. I like the bits. Which is probaby the ONLY food I like bits in, I can't stand fruit mold Jell-o. The two textures together just grosses me out no end.
Apparently, very...
Are you on exams yet, Caf?

How big is it? How mnay people live there? It's basically a resort place, isn't it? Not much 'real word' there?
A light that's walways on the stage? Like, a proper big light? wouldn't that be bad?? Or is it just a small lamp type thing? I once set fire to a light...standing at the top of the ladder with flames blazing...not much fun!
Mmmm...I love Jelly and fruit (Jelly=jell-o, jam=jelly. does that make sense?!)...soup's just wrong with lumps though. Especially if it's from a can - then it's just like watery dog food!
I'm on swot vac (study vacation)...I have a Navigation exam on Tuesday, where they dump us in the bush and expect us to walk a kilometre and end up within 50m of a marker, then I have 2 exams on friday and on on the next monday, then i'm done for a whole month!
Urgh - I was up so lte last night that I was still awake when mum got up for work. Must try to get more sleep and spend less time here!
Hello!
Pete *not quite dead yet* Posted Jun 16, 2002
Well, the island that I lived on, O'ahu, is pretty big. That is where the capital city of Hawai'i is, so there were quite a few people living there, I don't know exact numbers but at least a few hundred thousand. (874k, according to the 'net) It's very closed off, people are pretty safe there, (well, on the military housing base I lived on anyhow) but pretty much all there is to do is to go to the beach or the pool, it's a small island so there isn't much stuff like amusement parks, etc, to occupy yourself with.
For our ghost light, we use a small halogen lamp such as the type you would find in a basement (those twisty white ones), on a long stand (corner room lamp style) with no shade. Never had problems with fires or any such due to the ghost light, I think that is why there is no lampshade. Ack! I don't like heights anyway, so that would really freak me out, to have fire and need to get down quickly..
Eh, I eat my soup like a dinner so I like the bits..
Good luck with exams next week! Lucky you to get to have a break.. I know I'm enjoying mine.. Isn't it funny when your parents wake up and say "you're STILL up?!?!" Just the shock on their faces is pretty funny, I see this a lot, being a night owl as I am..
Sorry for the delay in replies, Caf.. Life interfered..

Not that there really is a topic..
I'm just being morbid.
Have you ever been in one of those moods where life is just creepy, you really want no part of it, and want to send it to sit in the corner until it behaves itself?
That would be my mood right now.. though I don't know the word for it..
It's really weird when you read the words of someone, and then realize they are no longer alive (not me, but for instance DNA or Tolkien, etc.) At least that is what is striking me right now..
Eh, sorry, enough of me inflicting my weird mood on you..
Hope things are going swimmingly..

I'm steadfastly not butting in at all, but I'll let you know that it's quite possible Cafram won't reply any time soon, if you have a look at her journal you'll see why. Of course, then again she might just pop in and prove me wrong, it's happened before
