Hi scoobs I can see you have skedaddled but thought I just needed to say ta muchly. I will look up picata when I am on line at home. I'm still using work and this message is from my iPhone, I have just bought a laptop but no Internet yet
How was your birthday and how are the trans American train plans going? I am quite envious of anyone at the moment who is going on holiday. Odd how a holiday leaves you needing another one, much like Chinese food leaves me peckish 2 hours later. I think we came back with over 400 nef raw images (which can't be seen on my laptop-awaiting Internet connection to get some software)But luckily the camera can be set to take basic jpeg with each one.. Photo quality is amazing, when we look at our old snaps it's a wonder how we ever put up with such poor pictures. Any hoo I must skedaddled my self. Talk soon and belated happy birthday
Dave

Ah - you took RAW and jpeg together!!
That's different.
Now if you find only just one stunning shot you can really get something special done with it from RAW.

America may have been scuppered by mum being rushed into hospital last week. Apart from physical probs dementia is creeping along. We may have to get her into care in Cardiff - she lives in Swansea - depending on medical assessment of her "capacity".

Regarding the pictures thats what we are hoping for. We have seen the results of just the basic images on our laptop and have been impressed with the quality so can't wait to see what the RAW image data can do.
I do hope that your ma is well enough for your trip, would you be insured if she wasn't well enough for you to go?
Its also very sad when the doctors and nurses start talking about capacity with you and you realise that the tables are turned and you are now the responsible adult looking after her...it can also be a relief depending on how much you may have been having to do before hand.
"Capacity" is such a huge term are they talking physical capacity to care for herself or capacity to consent to treatment;
Capacity to deal with financial affairs, for example power of attorney including general enduring and maybe the continuing power of attorney, and advanced directives
Capacity to make a will.
Capacity to consent to marriage or to engage in sexual activity (best not think about that one too much)or capacity to enter into contracts.
Usually its a combination of things that brings a case review like this ( I was a nurse in an emergency admissions unit for 12 years ) but it can be a cathartic process for relatives and there is a lot of help available...but who am i talking to? you probably know this anyway fella
I'm only a faceless messager here but if you want unofficial advice or just want to sound off and rant about things feel free

Thank you Dave.
Been visiting again.
With Anne as a nurse on a stroke unit I'm able to understand events much better than if I were just an uninformed relative.
They haven't concluded yet but have intimated that, from her responses and behaviour and speech she hasn't the capacity to fend for herself and I've reached the point where I'm prepared to agree for her sake.
She is fast becoming a shadow of the stroppy old bugger I called Mum.
I shaved, washed and dressed my Dad in his latter days before his death so yes, roles become reversed and you have to remember they nursed you into the world.
I have to say that this is another example of the NHS being an absolute blessing. I'm much comforted by the level of care and compassion shown.

So, have you discovered yet if you have the means to process RAW?

smiley - sadface not yet cooking my RAW ingredients
signed up to Talk Talk broadband (we have them for the phone and are pleased with the cost), I'm now waiting for the wireless router to arrive and then 4-7days after that (or more) I will be on the net from home
Meantime I also thank my blessings for the NHS who provide me with this marvellous internet here..tho it is a bit restricted with the sites I can visit
I will be very limited if the beeb axe these sites

I'm glad you have Anne, Stroke nurses are marvellous (and I say that with a straight face and no double entendres).
