Fridays

To me Friday is the worst day of the week. Everyone is cranky waiting for the end of the work week, and when it does end they are way too enthusiastic about celebrating it.

So during the day everyone is tired and ornery, and at night everyone is drunk and ornery.

Things tend to go wrong because of this. A teacher grading a paper will tend to get angrier at your mistakes. Your boss will tend to have little patience for any problems that involve you. Everyone seems to be both cross and on thier guard on Friday and that is never a good combination.

Memorial Day (31/5/99)

Happy memorial day.

As I sit here in my lab in the Penn State Department of Astrophysics. I can only wonder why these holidays don't apply to me.

Well, enough of my whining.

Today is the day that we Americans celebrate the lives (or more accurately lack thereof) of all the brave men and women (mostly men) who died serving this country.

Now as we are once again attacking another country, I wonder if we should change the idea of this holiday. There are so many people who die in wars, on our side or theirs, none of whom who are evil. Maybe we should remember everyone who has died, apologize for the violence, and hope that we are not the cause of any additional war memorials next year.

Sometimes war is inevitable, but that doesn't mean that we have to be happy about it.

Origin of SetupWeasel

I guess my handle needs a little explanation.

It is a combination of two of the world's evils: Microsoft's Setup Wizard and the Ronco Juice Weasel.

Ever notice that when you're installing a program in Windows (for instance IE 5.0) and when the Setup Wizard pops up it seems that it's only goal is to weasel the program into as many nooks, crannies and shared files that it can so that you can't completely uninstall it no matter how hard you try? That is why I replace the word Wizard with Weasel.

It works for Microsoft's other Weasels too. For instance the Help Weasel, the Maintainence Weasel, and the infamos Internet Connection Weasel (all programed to do exactly what Microsoft wants you to to).

That's it. No biggie really. I'm just happy it got in Hotmail and Yahoo without having to tack any numbers on it.
