My name is Feisor and I am an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) here at h2g2. It's my job to welcome you to the site and hopefully show you around a little. I AM a real person, not an automated reply not an automated reply not an automated reply .
Welcome to h2g2 – not just the friendliest on-line community but an incredibly huge, living, breathing guide to Life, the Universe and Everything. It’s compiled by researchers just like you and it's something YOU can take part in. You can write entries on all manner of subjects, and if it's something you think would look good in our Edited Guide (where all the best research goes), you can submit it to Peer Review Take a look at the <./>writing-guidelines</.> for more information on that.
I hope when you get to know us a little better you'll open your personal space and tell us a little about yourself - but there's no rush - and it's not compulsory
We ACEs are volunteers here to assist new researchers so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
You can leave a message on my space just by clicking on my name at the top of this message or by hitting the reply button below - it won't hit back (usually).
I have made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at <./>A719840</.> - if you go there it will lead you to all sorts of places which will help find your way around and get to know this wonderful place. It should keep you busy for a while
Oh, and don’t forget to bookmark not only your space but the H2G2 <./>FrontPage</.> - it’s a great way to stay in touch with what’s happening and leads to all sorts of corners which you may otherwise miss.
I am sure that you will love this community as much as we do There's lots of things to see, clubs to join and people to meet - please don't be shy - just jump right in - this is a friendly place. But be careful - it can become quite addictive - believe me I know
Enjoy!!
Have fun!!!
and above all !!!
Feisor

"unnaturally" warm welcome - nahh - we're all very friendly here
Congrats on opening your space
I'm very impressed - you should have a look at the The h2g2 University at A339059 and I'm sure that you would be a real asset to SEx - Science Explained Forum at A4108330
I am fascinated by M-theory - I don't understand it but have seen a few articles in New Scientist about it and it intrigues me
I like your article on Dark Energy - hope it goes well in Peer Review - keep me informed
If you have any questions about h2g2 drop me a line here and I'll get back to you asap

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted May 24, 2006
Hello Lord_Sieg. I'm one of h2g2's Scouts, whose job (job? Ha! If only we got paid for it ) it is to take care of Peer Review (PR).
When Douglas Adams launched this website in 1999 he envisioned it as being the 'Earthbound Edition of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy'. The idea was that people would join up and write pieces for the Guide which would hopefully be useful to other readers.
The site has evolved somewhat since then and we now have the general guide (most of h2g2 and the Edited Guide (EG), which is what PR is for. Ordinary guide entries can be about anything and only have to follow the <./>HouseRules</.>, while edited entries have to conform to much stricter guidelines Writing-Guidelines <./>SubEditors-Style</.> and pass through PR before being recommended (if suitable for the EG) to the Editors by a Scout, edited by a Sub-Editor and finally appearing on h2g2's front page for a day (or a weekend).
Furthermore, there can only be one entry about a given subject in the EG. After all, you wouldn't go to the Encyclopaedia Brittanica and expect to find two entries about Mars, would you. Unless they covered different aspects of Mars.
<./>Search</.> is very handy for finding out if we already have an edited entry about a subject, as is browsing the category system, starting here C889
The two entries you've submitted look very good but the subject matter isn't a field I'm knowledgable about so I'll leave it to those who are more in tune with the content to discuss.
PR may sometimes come acroos as rather harsh and unforgiving to some people but it's generally not the case. The only people who feel that way are those haven't read and followed the guidelines and who have unrealistic expectations about what will happen to their entry - 'I write it, I like it, I submit it to PR, it gets on the front page'.
It really doesn't work that way - even the mighty Gnomon U151503 who has written more than 100 solo Guide entries (and many more collaborative ones) rarely submits an entry to PR without comment from the reviewers.
We're always looking for good writers here at h2g2 - I hope you'll be the newest one.

OK ty for that, so are you saying I shouldn't have submitted them or was that OK is what I mean to ask? I didn't join to write about just random things, I joined to actually put down facts to help people be less confused etc. That's why I submitted those to be added, and as far as I can tell, there's nothing wrong with them...

I'd leave them there for now and find out what the reaction is from those who know more about the subject. PR is meant to be for entries that the author considers to be as ready as possible, although much commenting and editing of entries goes on in PR - sometimes for several months, sometimes for only a week or two.
You did ask above "What is Peer Review?". It's usually a wise idea to find out what something is for and how it works before using it but you seem to have a pretty good grasp already and just need to learn the minutiae and the guidelines particular to h2g2.
Leave the entries be and see how they go. You might find a few, how shall I put it... frothy and effusive replies in the PR thread, and you'll no doubt find some more serious ones. I tend towards the latter and I usually concentrate my critiquing on matters of grammar, spelling and English usage, as well as content.

Lord_Sieg,
Of course you are no bother at all Please feel free - I love it when new researchers get really into h2g2
I see that you have found someone much more suited to assist you with your entries - that's great
*waves to BH* Thanks for your help BH - this place (and especially PeerReview ) can be a little daunting at times
