Greetings, once upon a time I lived in Gardendale. I was there for 13 years (during my marriage). Of all the places I lived in (Vestavia, Homewood, Tuscaloosa) in AL, I liked Gardendale best of all.
Dodge the heat and the humidity!

Little Mountainbrook. That's our latest nickname around here. It's nice to run across someone who's been here!
You're right, G'dale is a nice place to live. I moved here from a little town just north, called Cullman. After 7 years here, I can say I've only locked my doors when gone on vacation. Now ain't that a high crime rate!
Heat and Humidity? There is no escape! Wouldn't be so bad if the wind would blow now and then! Right now it's 8:00 AM, 77 degrees with relative humidity at 87 degrees. I never have understood how the RH can be higher than the temperature! Folks are worried about the rain forests being destroyed....I think one is being created here!
By the by, what part of the world have you wound up in?

I know Cullman!!!! My "formers" people were all from Blount Co or Cullman. Landed in Chattanooga TN . . . will make some reports, soon as I figure it out, "R" in "Tars", "Ain't got no dog in that fight", "I'm the top of the trees this morning" . ? . ?
And here I thought Southern English, Alabama dialect, was hard to translate!

Ain't nothin' to it! Jus' plain ol' common sense! All you'ins gotta' do is ta' lisen ta' the words, and the meanins' jus' waltz right on in!
Yea, my moms' from Cullman, my dad was from southern Tennessee. I was born in Albequerque,New Mexico. That, at least, enables me to claim that I'm "not from around here". Comes in handy when I travel out of state!

AS I always said "Thank God for Mississippi", at least MS kept AL from being dead last in everything!
Born in Indiana my self. Boy, where my parents surprised when I announced I (& the new hubby) were moving to Birmingham, it took them two years to get the courage up to drive down I65 for a visit!

Shoot, by the time they actually made it down, they fell in love with AL (well, maybe it was the Grand Baby they fell in love with), but 4 time a year they were at my door step!
Mom really loves the Botanical Gardens. She said it was one of the best she had ever visited.
She likes it here in Chattanooga also. But, given the option of Indiana or the South, I say Roll Tide . . . War Eagle . . . anything to stay out of the cold, dank North!

AAHH!!!! The Botanical Gardens! LOVE that place! I've been to several around the southeast, I must say it is one of the best. Normally, it's a regular stop for Monshari and I, but I hate to say I haven't been once this year. It's a wonderful place to get ideas! Spring and fall are the best times; nothing much blooms around here in the mid summer.
Chattanooga is a great place to visit. Monsy and I spent a weekend there recently. Checked out the Aquarium. If you get a chance, you must go there. It's said to be one of the best in the world, and I can believe it!(Some great garden ideas there, too.)
As far as south goes, I'm not far enough, yet. It still frosts, and occasionally, snows here. I won't be happy 'till I make it to Key West! I absolutely cannot understand people who actually LIKE cold weather. As Monsy says, heat is just miserable, but cold HURTS!
