H2G2 Amnesty International Petition

Hi Mr. Prez!
Would you please consider the following, even though I didn't vote for you?
The following statement will be forwarded to Amnesty International to show that the h2g2 community supports their efforts to end the dreadful practice of torture around the world.
"We, the undersigned, support the aims of Amnesty International and the freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We call for the freeing of all prisoners of conscience; the right to fair and prompt trials for political prisoners; the abolition of the death penalty, torture and other cruel treatment of prisoners; and the end of political killings and human rights abuses."
Please join the list of Researchers who have already become a part of this very worthwhile endeavour by signing the h2g2 Amnesty International Petition.

I've already signed this very worthy cause, thanks
And a word of caution: A lot of people don't like being 'spammed' on h2g2, even if you're encouraging a good cause. I'd be careful of randomly posting messages like this if I was you. It's better to encourage people in established conversation rather than tell them something out of the blue - advertisement is rather frowned upon.

Yes, I know it's rather problematic to post "out of the blue" like this, but I also think that it's rather problematic that there's 60-70000 people in here, and only 80-90 of them have signed.
Obviously, there's a risk that I'd might offend somebody, but I really think it's a risk worth taking...
Cheers,
~Bistro

I've thought about it for a while, and I think you're right. Posting these messages was a bad idea, and I apologize.

s'okay, thanks
I wouldn't expect too many people to sign really: remember that although 60,000 people have signed up, only a very small preportion of them keep coming back to h2g2. Given time, the petition would probably do quite well; but I understand some people don't like giving their real name and location on the petition (I don't know if this is necessary but everybody seems to have)
Ah well
Key: Complain about this post
