YOU ARE HERE
Hello, and welcome to my space - an invisible dot on an invisible dot on the ever-expanding world wide web.
This particular dot is situated in Haileybury, Ontario, Canada (http://www.town.haileybury.on.ca" >http://www.town.haileybury.on.ca,) in the dingy basement of an otherwise rather nice stone house on a hill overlooking the beautiful Lake Temiskaming.
I'm a self-employed computer consultant who sifts through H2G2 when he's stuck on one of his projects. Thus, I'm here fairly often...
I'm also the Technical Director for the Classic Theatre in Cobalt and co-ordinate much of what goes on behind the scenes in one of Northern Ontario's finest performing venues. I've appeared in four local plays, and directed one (Steve Martin's 'Picasso at the Lapin Agile,' in which I also played Sagot the art dealer.)
As if that weren't enough, I am a rabid DVD collector, particularly interested in the 'great' films of all eras (the word 'great' is in quotes because it is such a subjective term.)
'Great' movie sites to visit:
><> The Criterion Collection (http://www.criterionco.com" >http://www.criterionco.com): Source of the most consistently interesting series of DVD releases on the market
><> Roger Ebert's home page (http://www.suntimes.com/ebert" >http://www.suntimes.com/ebert): Just about the only film critic who actually appears to love movies. Check out his incredible 'Great Movies' page (http://www.suntimes.com/ebert/greatmovies" >http://www.suntimes.com/ebert/greatmovies) - it hasn't let me down yet!
Finally, I am a dedicated skeptic, and hope to establish a skeptical organization in the Temiskaming region at some point in the near future. It's got a name that will have the best acronym on the planet, so I can't reveal it until the group is established. Darn!
Fun skeptical places to visit:
><> The Skeptics Society (http://www.skeptic.com" >http://www.skeptic.com): Publisher of Skeptic Magazine
><> The Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (http://www.csicop.org" >http://www.csicop.org): Publisher of the Skeptical Inquirer and home of the Darwin Fish
><> The James Randi Educational Foundation (http://www.randi.org" >http://www.randi.org): Home of James 'The Amazing' Randi and his ever entertaining weekly opinion column, not to mention the $1,000,000 Paranormal Challenge
><> The Annals of Improbable Research (http://www.improb.com" >http://www.improb.com): Home of the annual First Annual Ig Nobel Prizes for achievements that cannot or should not be reproduced, and the funniest links page anywhere
><> Bob Riggins' Page (http://riceinfo.rice.edu/armadillo/Sciacademy/riggins/newindex.htm" >http://riceinfo.rice.edu/armadillo/Sciacademy/riggins/newindex.htm): Contains a bunch of truly interesting essays on education, science and superstition
><> The Skeptic's Dictionary (http://www.skepdic.com" >http://www.skepdic.com): Heaps of definitions and essays, organized into a wide range of categories
Useful skeptical quotes:
><> "I believe that the extraordinary should certainly be pursued. But extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." - Carl Sagan, "Broca's Brain"
><> "It is important to keep an open mind, but not so open that your brains fall out." - Stephen A. Kallis, Jr.
><> "One thing I have learned in a long life: that all our science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike - and yet it is the most precious thing we have." - Albert Einstein

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
