Pirates of The Caribbean.
Bahamia Started conversation Jan 19, 2007
This subject might be old to others, but do most people know where
some of these Caribbean Pirates were born? Well, I do and the majority of their voyages ended in the Bahamas, because at that time it was "a lawless town with no governance."
I would like someone from H2g2 or interested persons to contact me
concerning the Caribbean Pirates. Together we can show the World the determination of these men and women in reaching the Bahamas, Caribbean, and North America. Although considered to be evil, brutal
men, they have stunned the World with their Navigation Skills.
In the Bahamas, "loot" was shared, ships repaired, and gold buried in the soft sand.
The foundation of Black Beard's Nassau Residence can still be seen
on a hill over looking the Harbour.

It looks to me like you have the makings of a Guide Entry there
Have a look at A9734682 (though the author of this artice hasn't been around for a while) and A618969 (author of this has also been gone for a while)
There is also a h2g2 University project at A7009959 - check it out.
Have you looked at the <./>writing-guidelines</.> yet?

I would be more than happy to have a conversaton about pirates with you. I have a long standing interest (and dare I say, respect?) of them and their pioneering ways on and about the seas. Arrr!

It's not a subject that I know much about - other than popular knowledge.
Why not search out the authors of the articles above - I'm sure that it would be much more productive
Or start a new conversation at <./>MiscChat</.> where lots of members of the community hang

Oh no, if it's madness, silliness or just plain insanity that you are used to you have deinitely come to the right place
is there such a thing as "just plain insanity" or is that an oxymoron?

Phaid the Deranged (and silly) Posted Jan 26, 2007
It's alright. I won't tell. Besides, I have yet to encounter "plain insanity" here. Regardless, I have certainly come to the right place! (Incidently, where do you think you fall in that spread?

Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ... Posted Jan 26, 2007
What spread is that? Marmite? Peanut butter? Honey?
Yes, I think I'd fall in honey ....

Phaid the Deranged (and silly) Posted Jan 26, 2007
Yes, I think the peanut butter might get a little too complicated. It usually does. But what's marmite? I don't think we have that here. My grandmother makes a great strawberry jam. Is it like that?

The spread I had been refering to was you "madness, sillines, or just plain insanity". It's kind of a slang term. In case you didn't know. Just trying to help.

Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ... Posted Jan 26, 2007
I did know what you meant - "madness, sillines, or just plain insanity" - oh, probably all three - it just depends on what day it is
Marmite - (actually in Australia it's more likely to be the alternative Vegemite - I just said Marmite because most Europeans don't know what vegemite is) - it's a black yeast extract spread about the consistency of axle grease, Definitely an acquired taste
Vegemite is an Australian icon but an American friend cannot understand how we can stomach it. Though he spread it on his toast like it was peanut butter and the trick is definitely less is more

"mellified" - now there's a word you don't hear every day - I'm impressed!
For the lurkers ....
To create a mellified man, an aging man would begin a strict diet of honey until he began to excrete pure honey. After death, the man would be entombed in a coffin filled with honey which was sealed for a century.
When the coffin was unsealed the contents were applied topically or ingested to cure a variety of illnesses and complaints.

It's one of those useless bits of information I have managed to acquire from somewhere. I really never thought that anyone else would ever mention it - it's not the sort of thing that comes up in conversation (except on hootoo)

Actually, that's fantastic! Why, just the other day I was wondering where I could get some...No, actually, I wasn't. Though what a wonderful conversation starter at parties! Congratulations to you both for having come up with the most unique piece of knowledge I have heard yet today. It's 4:22 A.M. here, but it will take a lot to top that.

So then, what would be the actual point of Vegemite? Some kind of dietary suppliment, or just some special way of saying "We're from here and you're not. See? This our special thing!" I think pickled herring and lutefisk are some more examples of that. Hmmm, pickled herring. I wonder if I have any. *Wanders off to refridgerator*...

Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ... Posted Jan 27, 2007
No, it's not a dietary supplement, though it is good for you.
It's simply a spread that has become an Australian staple - the kids grow up on it. Though it's not universal it is very common - more common than pickled herrings .
