Frankely, I think that pickled herring ought to be MORE common, but that's just me. Perhaps I'll have to look into this Vegemite thing. Who knows, maybe it'll be a pleasent diversion!

You might find it easier to get Marmite - which is the UK equivalent - and remember, lots of butter but only a little spread.

Got it. Thanks for the advice. My mother is a school teacher, teaching ESL (English as a second language), and I've been to many celebrations from other countries. I've tried many, MANY strange things (many of them only once). It's an interesting in-road to different cultures. What's one more? I've actually heard it mentiioned several times, and I have to admit being a little curious.
