Thought I'd better come and visit you since you added me to the illustrious company of WASGIRRWOJ (which I suspect is also a great name for a softball team, although you might then have problems distinguishing the team from everything else!). I am very impressed with the home page, too - nice and quick to load.
One of your journal entries suggests that your page is getting too long, and I think that you're right about this. The easiest way to make it less long, however, would be to simply remove all the redundant (repeated) information. You don't have to make two references to everything in order for people to find what you want them to - in fact, the fewer references you make, the easier the crucial ones will be to find.
Enough! I had better get back to work!
Regards,
Hypoman

Hey Hypoman! Thanks for the feedback. Your points are well taken. I agree with the comment about repeated items - it looks worse the more I look at it. The first thing I've done is remove a few updates, so that I only have two showing. I think I'll only keep one or two up at a time.
I do like the updates - although it seems ironic that my solution to fixing a long page was to make it longer. I figured that the updates would help people who come back regularly - they can just check the top section, and not worry about scrolling down to pick out the new stuff among all the old junk. But I agree that the repeated stuff doesn't work.
I think I know what to do. When I have something new I want to point someone towards, like a new protest, I'll only list it in the update section. Then, after I move the update off my main page, I'll replace it with a more permanent section farther down the page.
I seem to be thinking out loud in your general direction......

I think your "out loud" thoughts are good ones - updates which don't archive are a good idea.
I'm trying to put together a more useful home page at the moment - I think I will try and use yours as a model, because it's mostly text-based, and much quicker to load than a page with a million pictures. I may have to milk your brain (as well as as many other brains as I can find lying by the side of the road) for a few ideas - particularly about how to do things with HTML, so keep those "out loud" thoughts coming!

If you want to see a long-loading page, go see Madmunk. He's got some pretty neat stuff there, but his page makes some serious demands on my modem......

I must admit, if I want to talk to the Munk, it's easier and more interesting just to track him down through the forums - I don't want to wait around for that long for stuff which I've seen most of anyway.
This is not to say the Munk's discourse is anything less than valuable, it's just that there's too much of a price in terms of time for waiting for it! I do like his page, and have found it very useful, but I tend to find others such as Fenchurch's a little easier to use - mostly because they have less material in them, and are better set out.

Hey Madmunk! Didn't mean to talk behind your back. The music on your page seems to be causing the biggest problem on my computer. It seems to hold up some of the graphics, and also cuts in and out.
Which is too bad, since it is some fine music.
Hypoman - interesting new look for your page! Your page and Madmunk's seem in direct opposition. Have you been to John-The-Gardener's page yet? He doesn't have a ton of stuff there, but he is a hell of a writer. And the mystery guest link is a lot of fun. Also check out ZachMind's page - he has an interesting way to organize the tons of stuff he's written....

Hi Frink!
Yeah, the reason it lools so interesting is because I've put it's actual execution on hold until (a) I know I can link without offending too many people, and (b) I can make it look like I want it to look. If you want to read what it's actually going to say I can enable that, but otherwise I'll save it until I'm sure it's right (I had a bit of a fiddle yesterday, and got the tables etc. working, but I've still got to find a graphic I've got which will sit very nicely on the stage - as well as check all of my potential "linkees").
I must admit I really like Zachsmind's page: some of the stuff he's written tends to be a little bit detailed for mine, however - I'm much more one for vast, sweeping, general statements and blind conjecture. This is why I tend to write most about concepts which are as vague as possible...

I assumed you were working off line. If I were smart I would do that too. Several times I've put up a portion of something I was planning, then got distracted, and thus confused anyone who wandered by before I finished.

Oh, and I already put you up on my page. I haven't been asking people - I figure nothing wrong with free publicity, and if they want, I'll remove the link straight away.
Hey Frink!
Hypoman Posted Jul 29, 1999
Speaking of linking - I want to link to you too, Munk, and here seems as good a place as any to ask about it.
About that songwriting too...
Hey Frink!
Hypoman Posted Jul 29, 1999
Fine by me man - you'll get a link and a description as soon as I can think of something descriptive enought to say!

yeah, sure Hypoman, I don't mind a link, it's good, publicity, as TV's Frink says.... I'll add you to my (rather large) links page as well.
Anyway, Frink, i've cut the page into little bit's and spread them around now, and i'd removed the music ages ago. (i always play CD's when i surf the net, and the music always gets mixed up, which isn't ggod on the ears....)

Looks good MadMunk!
Hypoman - I've revised my page some to make it shorter. It's pretty much a direct result of our conversation here. Thanks!
