Not such a bad team... had such chance two years ago, but then the stupid Yankees (damn them) had to go and ruin things. Oh well.

Who is the catcher, though? ESPN tells me one Ben Davis, from Chester PA (my county seat!) But is he any good? I'venever heard the name before.

That's all. g'night!

They've dissappointed us quite a bit.... but you *do* have to give them credit... they're a good lookin' team. smiley - winkeye

If you can't tell, I ain't much into sports. While what I've heard about his actual playing ability is good, it's all from local sports guys who of *course* would say our guys are good, so I don't really know. *shrug*

Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit

Padres had their shot for one reason: Padres management wanted a new stadium. They brought in the talent, and they delivered marvelously, beating out heavily favored Atlanta for the NL Championship. It brought about a fervor of fan loyalty, and when the ballot measure to subsidize the new stadium was voted on the next month, it was wholeheartedly approved. The result: Padres got their new stadium, and rewarded fan loyalty by dumping off their high-caliber, high-profile, highly priced veterans. San Diego got screwed. It is for this exact reason that there is no football in LA, the second largest market. The Rams and the Raiders both pled with the local citizens for new stadiums, and the citizens said, "You're a multi-billion dollar industry, and you need my tax dollars? Go f**k yourself. Or better yet, go screw St. Louis." Same scenario is playing out with the Rams that played out with the Padres, with the exception that they already had a stadium, but they needed to build a fan base. They're gonna suck next year, though, just as the Padres did following their World Series appearance.

Uhhh... yeah. And it has a lot to do with the MAFIA, who had recently sent the author of that Reader article dead catfish. At least, that's what *I* know.

Doesn't know about sports. And refuses to know about anything affiliated with.
