Hey there.

I find myself wondering what a European conservative looks like. The political spectrum on either side of the pond are so out of joint, that I wonder where European conservatives stand. There have been people on the site that ave said the our democrats are would be very right wing in their countries. Over here, I think of them as little better than Marxists.

As it happens, my wife is also an English teacher by training. She teaches English and Social Studies to 6th Grade. There's an entry at [A470288] that explains what our grades are. In fact, your note got me to edit it and put it in Peer Review after two years of languishing in the uneditted guide.

I checked out how old 6th graders are, I don't think I would like to teach them. (By the way, I found the chart useful, I've never been able to understand the grade system in the US before). I teach English to mostly adults in a language centre here in Barcelona. I enjoy preparing English programmes for kids but don't enjoy teaching them very much. I have one of my own (well, not so much a kid he's almost 22!)and that's enough for me.

As for what European conservatives look like, well, we have two arms and legs and just about all the other bits that the leftists have except our brains are a bit different! No, aside from the (British) humour, you are right when you say that the political spectrum are very much out of joint now, in Britain especially, both conservative and labour parties usually try to be "middle of the road" as that way they will attract a lot more votes on election day. Gone are the days when the conservative party was for the upper class and the labour party was considered to represent the working class.
