An entry on types of radiation.

I appreciated your comments on the CS gas entry, and I took a quick look at the NBC project just now, and it looks like you could use this entry or something like it. I'm going to get in touch with a couple of guys for whom quantum physics is a job rather than a hobby and get them to comment on it, so it should be better than it is now soon.

Hope it helps.

That's great. It's almost exactly what I was thinking of, but I'd have to look all that up. I could basically remember it. The only book I have on radioation (DA Pam 50-3 - The Effects of Nuclear Weapons) is several hundred pages and hyper technical.

How would you feel about adding the CS article to the project?

I really am going to get around to it. I have this week free to get some work done on the whole thing. It's a little bit more difficult than I had anticipated because I don't have access to the Army Field Training Publications web site like I used to.

The most depressing thing I've ever written - methods of protection against radiation. I could have saved myself twenty minutes and just written "don't bother - you are going to die, and horribly too, since you asked."

I don't think I want to write anything else on this subject. I'll try and get someone with some expertise to comment on it... even possibly include the full symptoms of radiation sickness if you want to really gross people out.

By all means grab the CS entry and put it in if you think it (a) fits and (b) is good enough.

cheers...

H.

I think its great. Let me make sure I can get through some of the stuff this week. I don't want to delay its entry into the edited guide.

Radiation really isn't that hard to deal with. I've been though a couple of schools to deal with it. In one we went on a live site. The levels were low. It was still good for going through the motions. We properly dressed out and processed off of the site. IT was a lot of fun.

I've updated http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A652763 . If anything, it's even more depressing than it was before.

You also clearly have a different definition of "fun" than the conventional, but then wouldn't a cop? smiley - winkeye

Trivial question: when the project is complete, you, as main man, get a shiny silver badge. Do I get one? Just curious... I'm an inveterate collector of c**p, even virtual c**p, and shiny silver badges are right on the money! smiley - smiley

The thing its a fun technical challenge. You get all suited up. You set up your Contamination Control Area, then you go down on site to do your survey. (The course I was taking was for the survey team that comes on site after the EOD team leaves the site. I was an EOD tech, so normally, my team would have already come on site and rendered safe any nuclear device).

I like challenges. Of course, this isn't a challenge that we've had to deal with in a while. I think its been some 15 years since the last time we've had an accident involving a nuclear weapon.

The Field Researcher Badge goes to whoever led the project.

I thought I was going to make some progress on this during the week, but I was wrong. I worked for someone else last night, and then I spent most of the day in court or asleep.
