Not A Vacation?

When is a vacation not a vacation?

When you go to a place that is noisier than home and has outrageous traffic!

I stayed with my best friend, Tracy, and had a great time hanging out with her. I taught her daughter how to bake a cake and make meatloaf. Our friend Tom (from Allentown) also came to visit Friday night; of course, I had to drive him the 20 or so miles back to Allentown at 1 a.m. because he had to go to work the next day.

Dave, Tra, & I went to my parents house for Easter dinner. My parents were there, as well as my grandmother, eldest daughter, and Dave's mum. It was a nice time. The next day, I went back for a solo visit, and all I got was criticism. So much for having a wonderful time. I only stayed the afternoon, and then I smiley - cry at Tra's the rest of the night.

One fairly hilarious moment occurred in the middle of Saturday night. I was having trouble sleeping and was almost about to smiley - sleepy, when some drunk idiot in a loud truck parked himself in front of Tra's house and began yelling, "Hey! It's Bob! You guys up?" Well, drunk Bob lingered for a few minutes, shouted some more, and then took off. Tra said she had no idea who he was. She's been living in that house since January, and Bob obviously had no idea that his friends had moved out! smiley - doh

We brought home various foods that we can't get here in NH: scrapple, ring bologna, pork roll, and steak sandwich sauce. I wanted to get a Sicilian pizza and freeze it, but Dave wouldn't let me! smiley - grr!

I had a fairly decent time, but was very, very glad to come home. My parents will now have to drive up here if they'd like to criticize me, as I don't plan on making that trip for another couple of years, at least! smiley - tongueout

Vacation!

Well, I'll be off on my trip home to PA tomorrow! Again, I'm not looking forward to the 5 & 1/2 hour car trip, but there's not much I can do about it. At least I won't have to drive!

I will return on the 19th, but probably won't be back online until the 20th. Until then, I hope everyone stays well.

Happy Easter! smiley - bunnysmiley - chick

One Step Forward, Two Back

I've come to the conclusion that I will never get ahead because life is just one step forward, and two back.

Take, for example, the events of the past 2 weeks. I managed to get a job interview at a bank (1 Step Forward). The same day I learned of this, I found out that my crown was loose (1 Step Back). The next day, I found out that I still can't get my Syn-Visc shots for my knee because the (expletive) insurance company denied my claim (2nd Step Back).

Sunday, I had a great time in Providence at the H.P. Lovecraft Tribute (1 Step Forward). Today, my dentist wants to charge me over $2,300 for a bridge, to replace the unfixable crown (1 Step Back). Tomorrow is my orthopaedic appointment, during which I'm sure nothing will happen (forthcoming 2nd Step Back).

Is it no wonder why I cry all day, and can't seem to even want to get out of bed in the morning?

My apologies for being so absent on the forums, but I am just feeling pretty depressed lately. I will try hard to get it together, but I'm not very optimistic.......

H. P. Lovecraft

This coming Sunday, a bunch of us are heading to Providence, R.I., to join in an H.P. Lovecraft Memorial service. This service - held annually - is a memorial to the author (the totally unappreciated author) of many horror/sci-fi stories and novels; without Lovecraft, there would be no Call of Cthulhu RPG, so I must go and pay my respects.

The service is organized by Carl Johnson, one of the demonologists from the Sci-Fi channel's "Ghost Hunters." I am looking forward to meeting him, as well as to seeing Lovecraft's grave.

(Am I insane for taking a 6 hour round-trip drive, when I have such a long drive two weekends later?)

I've been having a few computer problems, and my h2g2 is acting awfully slow. Takes forever to post, and I don't have much patience lately. If anyone's missing me on any forum, this is why.

The Steak Fell Through!

Had an interesting weekend. On Saturday, Hubby & I had Jess (our youngest) and her boyfriend, Ethan, up for a good steak dinner. Hubby decided to grill out; he's already done so once. The man just can't seem to wait until the temperature gets over 50 to fire up the grill.

Speaking of the grill, every year when we do our first cook out, we have to have this smiley - silly ceremony: we have to bless the grill, and then plead for the 'Gods of Grilling' to let us have a good year, and make every meal perfect. If only the gods had been smiley - smiley-ing on the Hubby on Saturday....

I was in the living room talking to Jess & Ethan when Hubby bursts into the house, yelling for me to, 'Come quick! Bring the big utensils!' When I asked why, he shrieked that one of the steaks had slipped through the grilling surface and was now lying directly on top of the charcoal! (I guess that the steak's escape attempt was unsuccessful!)

I grab the large tongs and run outside in my T-shirt (it's about 30-some degrees) and rescue the steak. I run into the house and wash it off in the sink as best as I can. I return to Hubby, and we attempt to replace the grilling surface without using our hands. Not easy when the darn thing is hot, and you're using large, unwieldy utensils. I could just imagine the headline in the newspaper: Keystone Kops Attempt Difficult Grilling Maneuver: Fail Miserably! I can hardly do anything, I'm smiley - laugh-ing so hard. This, of course, irritates Hubby, who yells at me and only makes everything worse - and more funny.

I offered to eat the charcoal crispy steak, but Ethan decided he wanted it; he claimed that it tasted fine. Needless to say, no one had the nerve to start a food fight at the table this meal!

I did Jess & Ethan's wash (they're broke, temporarily) and did Jess's taxes.

Sunday I had to drive 20 miles to Keene to run my Call of Cthulhu RPG; my knee hurt like the dickens (my Grandma's term!) every time I had to push in the clutch pedal. I might have to quit driving until I get my Syn-Visc shots; the first one is scheduled for April 5. Of course, since I sent out my resume for a teaching job, I will have to drive 15 miles or so for an interview - if I get one!

Can't wait for our trip to PA next month! Miss my parents and grandma, my eldest daughter (Hillary), and Tracy, my best friend. It will be good to see them all, but my knee certainly isn't looking forward to 5 1/2 hours in the car! smiley - groan
