Complicity
Walking through Waterstones, my peepers gallantly pondered over a neatly stacked row of books, "Iain Banks". Hrm, having heard the name before I thought, "jingly sounds in my pocket.... go on then!" Making the £6.99 purchase, I happily scurried home for a good old read. : >)... Read Book... : >/ “Complicity is a stunning exploration into the morality of greed, corruption and violence, venturing fearlessly into the darker recesses of human purpose” Stunning? I think not. More bland and dreary, lacking true depth; infuriating with it's apparent reader pleasing. Exploration? Yes, exploration into the dullness of modern popular fiction. Darker recesses of human purpose? Paedophiles, anal sex & mutilation. The dark side of human purpose is not popular culture's newest morbid obsession. It is the perverse realities faced within every generation, the sinister realisation of the banal, the absurd and its true place within the psyche. “Complicity is arrogant and insipid, during the dénouement I thought I had been submerged into a "gritty" & "real" Ruth Rendall novel” I hate the novel "Complicity". I despise the culture it is supposedly representing. I even dislike the credulous reader who puts down this book without further thought, with no insight into the true realities of human nature. This person who writes, "a remarkable novel...superbly crafted, funny and intelligent." I can only wish every reader can see what I see - the petulant and obvious attempts at reader-pleasing; the lack of depth and insight; and the dearth of character which constantly unhinges plot plausibility. I feel Iain Banks has released a novel which deprives book shelves of literature & denudes modern popular fiction of worth, I can only wish before making the mistake I did, any future readers can glimpse my little piece and steer clear. Very clear. (hrm….would they be future readers if they steer clear?? Philosophy undergraduates.…you decide)Conversations

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
