I'm sub-editing your "Ships of the Roman Fleet" entry A69451572. I'm making good progress, but am confused by the section about the Bireme or Liburna.

Can you please answer these questions in your own words? Don't cut and paste from sources in your answer, as this only confuses things - I don't know which is you talking and which is a quote.

1. Was it liburna or liberna? Or possibly both.

2. You say the ship was powered by a single bank of rowers, but later in the same paragraph you say that the bireme had a second bank of rowers. Are you saying that the Liburna and Bireme were two different types of ship? And was the libernae galley that you also describe a third type of ship?

2. You say the ship was powered by a single bank of rowers the liburna, yes thats right but later in the same paragraph you say that the bireme which was a different design/development from the original liburna did have the addition of a second bank of rowers.

I am saying that the Liburna and Bireme are derived from the same ship type. The Bireme slightley heaver but faster, they were two different types of ship? Yes however they were very similar in size and design (aparantly there are only descriptions to go on)

And was the libernae galley that you also describe a third type of ship? No
