Hi there Bob, it's frankandsense letting you know that I can stand on Portsdown Hill and look down on that fine castle. There is a fine church in the grounds and you can look out over the harbour, once you've got over the fact that wild wallflowers are flowering on the castle walls. Some good pubs near there serving good food. If you go up to Portchester shops you might bump into my old girlfriend.
Our Portsmouth Spinnaker tower is not so high as the one in Dubai but we love it.
Too wet today to enjoy the beauty of Hampshire. I'll just browse through my pics instead.

Up there among Palmerston's Follies, our hill forts that have their backs to the sea you can still see rabbits on the road at night, or by day gaze in wonder at Portsmouth spread out like a map by looking south; look north at the rolling Hampshire landscape. In my childhood it was much grassier; not so scrubby and bushy; many more wild flowers; many more birds, and small boys relentlessly collecting their eggs. I see me and my jam-jar and bamboo rod setting of for Southwick or Sheepwash, Denmead or Worlds-End, anywhere a minnow or a stickleback might be hiding; a sand lizard, crested newt or a slow worm might be captured. A ten miles there, ten miles back sort of time when ten year old boys ruled the world and read Boys Own Paper when the could find a copy that a richer kid had finished with.
"The Hill", as we called it is steeped in history; tales of Winston Churchill planning the war in the area; all there to be uncovered by enthusiasts. Visitors flock to Portsmouth to see Nelson's Victory and can view H M S Warrior from The Hard. Don't miss a trip up the Spinnaker Tower with your digital camera.

You sound like you miss all that.
It was a more interesting time and a better. We may compare notes... I miss the tower at Lee on Solent... and all my schools have been demolished... the friends and the relations we did not appreiciate when we had them.
