Hi Bob. Great space you have here. Ok, I'll bite. Does the Fusty Ferret smell a bit, well, fusty? I haven't seen it over here.

Here is California, Mendocino county. There are many fine local ales, even some cask conditioned ales.

When visiting a brewpub I haven't been to recently or ever, I usually order the taster set. Little glasses with each beer they make, do they do those in your neck of the woods? When I'm organized, I even take notes, unfortunately they're not to the format you use.

For example, last weekend Mr. Nerd and I visited two brewpubs, and here are the notes I made for one of them:

Standing Stone Brewing Company, Ashland, Oregon

Lager - Nice and crisp, with a little more malty character, hopped with Hershbrucker and Saaz.
Hefeweizen - The second best hefe I’ve ever tasted. Absolutely lovely with banana and clove flavors.
Amber - Has some roast malt to make a less sweet, more robust flavor profile.
IPA - A rich, flavorful IPA in the west coast style, not skimping on aromatic hops.
Double IPA - Deeply hopped yet well-balanced, with a long finish.
Porter - Roasty, toasty, a wonderful winter treat, and to style.

Standing Stone offered two seasonals, one was flavored with almonds, not my favorite. The other seasonal, a steam beer, tasty and crisp, with Centennial hops, may well be the best steam outside of California.

And here was another, we only tried a few or their brews, but I can recommend them.

Wild River Brewing Company, Cave Junction, Oregon

Honey Wheat - A light, crisp summer drink.
ESB - A very nice ESB, malty and a little bit roast flavor.
A traditional-stye IPA, well but not overly hopped.
Nut Brown Ale, toasty, nutty, roasty, flavorful. Delicious with the pizza we ordered, the pesto primavera, a grown-up pizza with slivered almonds.
The Double Eagle Russian Imperial Stout, a traditional sweet stout.

Um, that would be "...a few of their beers..." Golly, when am I going to learn to re-read what I have typed?smiley - laugh

Also, last month, we went to this beer festival www.avbc.com/news/boontbeerfest. There were lots of excellent beers. The Elysian Brewing Company of Seattle, Washington www.elysianbrewing.com had made a seasonal brew of their west coast-style pale ale by adding jasmine flowers. It was lovely, and I could have easily spent the rest of the afternoon sipping that. Sacramento Brewing Company (Sacramento, California) served up their Sasquatch Scotch Ale and their IPA, both yummy. Actually I didn't taste as many things as you might think - I was working! There was an after-party where I had a raspberry framboise lambic (a special - not commercially available) that was so delicious I had to go back for seconds.

Yes, there was bahl steinber hornin' aplenty!smiley - biggrinsmiley - winkeye

I see you have a University project on the Anglo Saxon kingdoms. smiley - applausesmiley - biggrin I only managed to read 1.5 of them as of yet, busy weekend, but it's interesting reading.

By the way, I tried using the clip/bookmark entry feature, and nothing seemed to happen. smiley - erm Do you know how this works?
