Blackburn cometh
Posted Apr 5, 2006
So, it's 11/8 Portsmouth, 8/5 Blackburn, and 11/5 the draw.
Blackburn is a day out for most of the high-ranking executives. They get to spend Grand National Day at a jollie, while all of the shop staff are going out of their minds with the increase in business that Grand National Day brings to a typical bookmakers.
I, however, shall only be going out of my mind in the morning; By the afternoon, I shall be safely hiding in Fratton park, awaiting the result of not only the Grand National, but also of the football game that is due to occur. Then I settle some bets. Then I go down the pub.
As far as the national is concerned, my best tip is NOT to back the favourites. 4/1 favourites (for that is what we are offering at the moment) DO NOT WIN the grand national. Ok, it might, but 4/1 is not exactly the sort of money I am looking for on this race.
Instead, I'll look for a 20/1 or thereabouts, and consider the each-way possibilities. Pick the best 20/1 you can find, and who knows, you may get lucky. Alternatively, just send me lots of money, I can always find something to use it on.
See you at Fratton Park, in the not-quite-so-frozen North.

Arsenal on the horizon..
Posted Mar 22, 2006
Current betting is 11/4 Portsmouth, 5/2 Draw, 8/11 Arsenal. We've been quite thoroughly wrong on the last two matches, and it has cost us dearly. No doubt the lucky punters in the frozen north are just waiting to run me out of money again... So it goes.
My prediction - Against all probability, and just to annoy me, a 0-0 draw.

Ladbrokes hammered again!
Posted Mar 11, 2006
A 2-1 result is never a good thing, except for the team that gets it, and their supporters, but the sheer number of people who had it on their betting slips means that Ladbrokes got utterly clouted at the ground today.
Arriving back at the office with less than two hundred quid, and all of it in coins, made cashing up fairly simple, but it took us a while to feed all of the bets into the system so that the people not paid out today (because we ran out of cash) can get paid at their local shops.
I am utterly zarked out. Goodnight.

Here we go again
Posted Mar 10, 2006
Tomorrow, 3pm, Portsmouth play host to Manchester City.
The betting is pointing in the direction of Manchester City, although not by much (a tiny difference of 0.55 points).
BBC Weather says Rain. and 8 Celcius. A whole 8 degrees is a darn sight warmer than it has been of late. Hopefully the roof doesn't leak any more...
The pitch, which was re-layed about seven weeks ago, has had four weeks of uninterrupted growing opertunity (although I don't beleive grass grows at temperatures below 4degC). Atleast it is better than Chelsea's pitch (who, lets face it, really should be able to afford a new one)
My prediction.. Another boring 0-0 draw.

Reporting from the Frozen North
Posted Feb 5, 2006
Over in the shed, two evening games in four days.
Dumped out of the cup by Liverpool (complete with extremely dodgy (ok, completely wrong) handball/penalty decision). Temperatures and morale plummeted.
On an even colder Wednesday night, we got kicked around by Bolton, but with two late goals, one for Bolton and one for us, settling all the bets was a bit of a rush job. Atleast it kept us warm (well, almost)
So, next up is Manchester United. Yet another evening game, and as far as I know, the last evening game of the season. It'd be nice to have a balmy August or May evening fixture, but no, ours are all in February..
Football365 does not appear to have caught up with the time change yet.
No sign of snow yet, but I'm sure it's on the way; it'll probably be with us by early May when we play host to Liverpool again..
